Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

Please start lay-offs first then start make us come back to office

Imagine we start back to office on May 1st. Exposed to the virus the same day. A week later, we get laid off and lose insurance . Two weeks later, our symptoms show up and we are dying with no income and no insurance.

Man up. Lay off first and pay the health bills to people who are going back to the office .

Just and fyi the federal stimulus is adding an extra 600.00 a week into the Texas Unemployment claims. So the max benefit is up to 521.00 a week now, and with this stimulus from the federal government it is up to 1,121.00 and that is the honest truth. I have a friend that just got the first payment and they did a retro payment as well. This can last up to four months under this stimulus, and I wonder how many people will just stay home and collect the money instead of search for work.

If they do have us comeback they should still extend the corona virus 14 day exemption before hitting our PTO. Everyone else is saying this is not the worker's fault, so the 14 day exemption should stay in place while the virus is still hitting thousands a day.

The biggest issue you are going to have is sick people coming to the office because they don't want to use PTO. That is just human nature and whereas some will only be affected slightly it could be a death blow to others. All it takes is one person to bring a lot of people down.

It's a good thing being an a-hole isn't contagious.

yeah right everyone that get Corona virus dies. Quit the drama, we cannot stay like this indefinitely. If you choose to be afraid then quit. You are more likely to die of other things other than corona.

OXY should NOT reopen until June. To be on the safe side. Meanwhile OXY should be looking to save a lot on electricity and building maintenance while not in use,

Texas' peak in COVID-19 deaths most likely a couple weeks away, UT research shows
As of April 21, there’s only a 39% chance Texas has already reached its peak in deaths.

As of Tuesday, April 21, there’s only a 39% chance Texas has already reached its peak in deaths and the true peak may be a couple of weeks away. The model shows that in Texas, there’s a 75% chance the peak will happen one week from now and a 91% chance of a peak happening within the next two weeks.

"We still haven’t reached peak and aren’t expected to in Texas until end of April."

Hey dummy. Peak in Texas was 2 days ago. Get your butt back to work when we say so.

There is no way mayor turner and judge Hidalgo will allow us to go back to work in May 1st no matter what oxy wants. Judge Hidalgo already said two weeks minimum after peak cases before she signs off on a return to work order at minimum. We still haven’t reached peak and aren’t expected to in Texas until end of April. Oxy doesn’t decide the rules the city of Houston will. Earliest we can expect to be back in May 15th two weeks after we see peak cases.

I think your supervisor might work with you if you have a reason not to come back to work. In this business there will always be a risk of losing your job and insurance, or any business for that fact. Oxy and other companies have to go back to work at some point or no of us will have jobs period. Whether you work at Oxy or anywhere else until they come out with an immunization you are at risk. I don't want to go back either, but I need the job even with a 30% cut. I know a lot of people that have lost their jobs and are paying huge prices for Cobra, and that almost is not a choice for some when you see Cobra bills of 1,800.00 to 2,000.00 a month. I hate to say it because I think Oxy execs sold us down the river with the Anadarko acquisition, but until I can find a replacement job I need this one. Also, you can always try and find another job, but good luck in this environment.

You clearly don't know what the F you're talking about. Even in your scenario (which is unlikely) you will not lose insurance. If you come back on May 1st and are laid off on May 15th you will still be on company insurance through the end of the month. After that you will have the option of COBRA for 18 months. Stop your griping and go back to work when you are told to.

If that’s your worry, claim you’ve lost your sense on smell and sense of taste (covid-19) symptoms and inform Oxy your self quarantining. They won’t dare to lay you off.
Then just keep faking symptoms (everybody is pretty clueless about this disease) get Short Term Disability, take family care, cause your spouse is showing symptoms too, just drag it out.
Milk it for what it’s worth.

It’s also less embarrassing to be laid off before.

dummy. You are asked to go back to office on May 1st, because you have to return your laptop. Who cares about your health. We only care how to save the delivery fee. Actually, you are making money by driving to work. The oil price is negative anyway.
