Thread regarding Ford layoffs

What exactly happens when you’re terminated?

Are you able to transfer files off your laptop or email? Do they offer severance? Any remote or in-person examples? Just want to understand the process. TIA

It depends but I’m not exactly sure what it depends on. Possibly it’s related to the data and systems you have access to. I was let go and was told I could leave immediately or stay until the end of the month. My access was not removed until the end of the month when I returned my things. Others were walked out and lost access immediately. You do get severance that varies based on years of service.

You will NOT have access to your pay/tax info. You will lose access to everything on hronline.ford.com (or whatever it might be called now). You will still have access to myfordbenefits.com but may lose access to some features. I would download paystubs, W2 forms, work history and dates (remember LDEPs?), lease vehicle history (if applicable) and PRs along with anything else on hronline now.

If you start downloading or emailing attachments from your laptop, it may not work or it may send a warning to your manager. Be ready to demonstrate what you are downloading.

If you just want an image of things, you can use an HDMI recorder dongle and record your documents on your personal computer as videos.

I’ve been using a second monitor at home so I don’t know if they can tell what you connect the HDMI output to.

Yeah don't try to game the system on IT. They have complete control over their systems and everything on them. To keep any personal information on there, or expect to take anything with you is just foolish. You don't want the trouble and all the work you did at Ford belongs to Ford. Just don't put anything personal on company assets...ever...and nothing on there belongs to you. Even if it's personal, the moment it lands on a system they own, consider it no longer yours..or at a minimum "dual" ownership...lol. When they tell you to leave...be prepared to just leave...unceremoniously....do not mess around with logging into anything personal form a work system...ever. It's just not worth it and if you work at Ford and cannot afford your own laptop and can't do it from your phone, other issues are afoot that need fixin'.

It is just an additional precaution. One less task to worry about if someone gets let go.

I’ve been through it twice now. It takes them about ten minutes to get rid of you from the time they tap you on the shoulder to the time you are on the other side of the turnstile.
You should download whatever you need off of your work computer now just in case. If you want any pay stubs or W2’s download those. Also, don’t forget to take copies of your training. It might help with filling out your resume’. Anything else that you want to keep, get it off now.
If you do get laid off, your access will be completely shut off.
You might get severance depending on how long you were at the company.
They might still provide you with A-plan so that you can buy one of their train wrecks. You’ll get access to COBRA healthcare coverage at wonderful high prices. Then they will wish you well and move onto the next unlucky person.
It’s totally dehumanizing. Don’t let the SOBs get to you! Pull yourself up and find a better job. Living well is the best revenge. Good luck!

Yes they ask which OEM you're going to so they can know where to forward all your files.

Just be ready and have nothing of consequence on your company laptop. Otherwise what happens after them shutting you off is not your problem.

The work around to no files being allowed attached to email is this:

Sign into your Gmail account.
Create emails and add attachments.
DO NOT SEND

Log into your Gmail from personal device. Go to drafts and download attachments.

USB will be disabled on you computer and no files can be attached to emails. I could not access the shared drives. In the end I just gave up and deleted everything on my computer. It was probably still there somewhere.

I had 3 managers and none of them were up to speed on what I was working. I was a shared asset training 3 young engineers and I guess my time was up.

It was not a big surprise as I communicated with them that I was ready to go if they needed somebody. Not one email from anybody thanking me for 33 yrs of service.

I could have been working on the engine that runs on water and nobody cared.

You will lose all access to you laptop, but your supervisor will maintain access to it for 6 months and is expected to save any essential work on it. That said, I've never looked at any employees old data, I just delete the reminders from IT.

You will still have access to your pay/tax info and Ford Benefits, whatever does not have your personal email already associated, will be set up as part of the HR closure. You are given the external contact info for your assigned HR offloading person.

What I remember is, security presence being a lot more visible, managers rounding up those tapped for this exercise and holding briefing meetings that go through the exit packet being handed out. Same script pretty much everywhere. Then a short question and answer time with contact info all spelled out. Then an escort out to the lot with your personal stuff. This is the typical scenario. In my career I've been on all sides of this experience. I have to say getting out from an unhappy work life was the best for me. Surviving the cuts only to do two and sometimes three peoples work was the worst. Just remember everybody is has feelings on all sides of this. Better - MUCH BETTER - days are ahead for everybody. Good luck all!

Don't keep anything on a company laptop that you don't want to lose.

Get copies of your PRs as far back as you can now.

Silly question: what's the rationale behind keeping copies of W2s / paystubs? Aren't you allowed to have that information provided to you?

Most people will be locked out within 10 minutes of being informed.

If you think you could be on the list, prepare now.

All your accounts will be locked. You will not be able to login to your laptop.

Which is why it is very important NOT to store any personal files on your laptop. Please do not keep pictures of your family on your work computers.

  • Make sure to add a personal email to sites such as Ford Benefits.
  • Keep copies of W2s and paystubs on your personal computer.
