Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

Shape up or Ship OUT! Shut up the negativity!

The negativity on here is abhorrent. I absolutely have giving up 30% of my salary but better than being Laid off and getting unemployment. Looking for weekend jobs now.

OXY has great properties and best EOR in the industry. We all need to band together and work through this. Prayerfully hope this is in the very short term less than 6 months.! Please let’s find solutions and save this company. Let’s find Blessings, we have our health, our jobs in the midst of a pandemic and horrid oil shock.

Thank you!

I just wanted to thank you for your inspirational words. Though the tone was somewhat condescending, the anger with which you expressed yourself motivated me to want to follow your advice to "band together and work through this", in the same way that a kindly-worded order to "die or else" from Stalin might have moved a Russian soldier at Stalingrad. Also, the poetic beauty with which you subsequently invoked Almighty power, with terms like "Prayerfully" and "Blessings" made me wince, but in a good way, like when a corporation tells you that you're family while it f—s you in the a–. I'm 100% with you though. I totally believe God wants us to be in good spirits while free-market capitalists who take miscalculated risks with our livelihoods hand us the consequences. God is definitely the solution here, and I prayerfully believe that given his concern for the world oil market, and Oxy in particular, he'll make this alright. I mean, doesn't he know that Oxy has the best EOR assets in the industry?! He would not let those go to waste!

In the spirit of your own sign off, let me just say no, it's not you who should be thanking us. Truly, it is we who should thank you. Thanks a–hole!

OP

You must be in HR, on the Oxy EC and/or off your meds!

Best EOR? Oxy cut their Permian EOR budget by several $100MM per year for the past few years. Why? To put more money into drilling Permian UC wells.

Moreover, in a carefully worded article in the Houston Chronicle, VH claimed that Oxy alone had the “ solution” for CO2 EOR in Permian UC plays. That was (and remains) a lie!

VH also started the Oxy Low Carbon Ventures unit. What a waste of cash! Direct air capture of CO2 from air that has average of 400 ppm CO2? Pure insanity. I wonder what OLCV’s budget is going forward?

Ship OUT? MY PLEASURE! Give me a package like what APC employees were offered and I'll be well on my way out the door witout looking back (lest I turn into a pillar of salt)!

Good riddance, I'm done with Oxy after things in the market settle. My resume is updated and will be in circulation across the US before the end of the year.

@tko+1496iTIG ... basic business man. You don't take on debt like that in a volatile commodity industry that's manipulated by King pins in the middle east. You also don't get raked over the coals by Warren Buffett in a lopsided business deal so you can ramrod a highly overpriced acquisition through without shareholder approval. There's a reason others walked away when Oxy and VH wouldn't.

I actually do think a lot of people like VH on a personal level, but she is a horrendous leader who has shown an inability to think more than one step ahead. Almost every move is reactive like there is no strategy or serious thought to it. I mean heck, preached about dividend only to cut it a few days later. Now you're saddled with a bloated balance sheet, junk debt and a worthless stock ... AND when you actually really need employees to perform and realize the synergies upon which you have staked this terrible deal, you disincentive them to careless whether the result is achieved of not. The company is DONE.

Wrong place bro’. Maybe post this up on Oxy’s Yammer? THE LAY-OFF is about those who have been or are worried about LAYOFFS. If the negativity (ahem...reality?) is too much, hang out with the management crew at Oxy. They will make you feel like your the best thing since sliced bread! Just check out their type curves! Best IP30s in the world! Here’s a Kroger cake.

When Oxy bid for APC, the stock tanked. Read what T Rowe Price had to say. Read what Icahn said. Look at how CVX popped and Oxy crashed.

No crystal ball needed to know that ego and stupidity were central to this. Oxy was f—ed regardless of current events. Being that leveraged, you're hoping, praying that things stay great.

That's idiocy. But the EC and middle management think they sh– gold, so obviously they didn't listen.

So you’re saying VH needed to have a crystal ball to predict this global pandemic and Russia not playing ball like 6 months ago? Hindsight is 2020. If nothing like this had happened, then you all would be sitting on better acreage/inventory that would have had more work for all of you for the next 5-10 years. Again hindsight is 2020. Everyone is suddenly an expert...

Perspective is recognizing that this failure is self caused. It's easy to blame external factors, but nothing other than extraordinary hubris and circle-jerking was responsible for destroying a balance sheet by overpaying for APC.

Reading some of the outrage some people feel here, you would think the oil is not at $20/bbl and the world economy is deep in the sh–s....some people are just totally out of touch with reality. Seriously, the world market will be weak until at least end of this year thanks to this global pandemic and some companies not just oil and gas will not survive. So instead of thinking Geez I am so p-ss-d the company, how abt just putting things in some perspective?
