Thread regarding Google Inc. layoffs

People in denial

Some still refuse to believe that there will be cuts. Why? My sage advice is that in any case it is better to consider opportunities beyond Google, than to be lulled into a false sense of job security.

@tho+1kb7uLwr agreed....I was in big tech firm for a while and my forecast after some digging, observing, and getting to know the culture is that it was overstaffed by 50%, not including contractors. You had founding members in their 40-s and 50's, making millions a year while they outsourced their responsibilities 100% and did absolutely nothing. This is common in a founding culture over time. Now that's not to day there are not many hard working, ethical people who deserve what they get paid but it was shocking to see the waste and bleed that had been going on for at least 15 years.

@tho+1kb7uLwr "Latest Twitter restructuring show software companies can operate on reduced cost structure"

Really? You'd rate @OP+1kdnbMGw as some kind of success story for Twitter? Or, even better, just go to that Twitter board.

If you are so sure of this, then by all means at the next all-hands ask "do you consider Twitter's restructuring to be a model Google can follow?"

@erj

Not saying that someone isn't crunching the numbers on severance costs (always have to have that number handy, just ask WeWork how it worked out when they didn't).

However, a second claim of yours is that the quarterly results will be announced on February 7. Perhaps you can shed some light on when the date was changed (and just to confirm, what date was originally announced to us).

Latest Twitter restructuring show software companies can operate on reduced cost structure: CEOs and investors are taking notes and it puts pressure on companies like Google that traditionally pay its developers higher compensation than the rest of the industry

Watch out on February 7th when google reports quarterly earnings; watch for “restructuring” costs in the 10Q section referring to severance packages cost: good luck to everyone!

Layoffs rumors are just rumors until it happens to you; then it becomes 100% truth; it’s better to be prepared.
At the end of day, Google is just like any publicly traded company: reporting to Wall Street investors who expect revenue and cash flow growth
