2023 Promotion Cycle

Were promotions a hit or miss for your team? It seems mixed as always.

I thought some junior members on my team would get the bump, but it was all senior people going up another level. I think they still deserved it, though. Another case where a team of high performers and bad policies leads to people being left out. I expect at least 1 of the level 4 or 5's that are not visa-bound to leave.

One person I spoke with said their team's promotions were all head scratchers. Unfortunately there is not much transparency when this sort of thing happens. Their team has been partially offshored already, so I think they and the others that used to care more are biding their time while they hurtle down the slippery slope of GFES.

Promotions at GF are based on a sole factor: loyalty.
Skills don't matter. Hard work doesn't matter. What matters is that you are willing to do anything for your boss, as simple as that.

How you can expect fairness of whole leadership ( from fab GM to first line) is biased, incompetent, racist and bunch of rejected junks. There are hidden agendas that are driven in back while everyone is reminded of equality in front. All is not well.

Limit attrition of the exec teams not part of the 40/60/25* plan.

*Outsource 40% off-site support.
60% Fab support.
2025 plan.

Agree with @tgo+1nBbniUq & @1tcm+1nBbniUq

There is def a pattern. The same order cycle is followed every year and you can predict who gets up coming promotion and has very little to do with actual work quality or achievement for that year

Clearly there is pattern in promotion. We can see all of them are pets or rejects that are unable to leave GF as they are highly incompetent and incapable. Strong political connection is clear winner. What else you expect??? This is GF he-l riled by junks and rejects.

Promos at GlobalFoundries come down to the first line manager nominating folks and then at the director level they must meet the targets which comes down from the top. Now how selections are made are typically based on who is putting in consistent work above their level and then a prioritized list of promo candidates is created at the dept/director level. Then based on the quota/budget which comes down from the top folks are selected from that prioritized list. Of course, the prioritized list is never perfect but overall, it is reasonable based on my experience. Now where are the issues? When too many execs are promoted, it takes from the total budget and less engineers/lower managers get promoted. This year the exec promos chewed up most of the budget and then there was very little left for others so in some cases engineers were promoted but given 0% merit at the same time. This is the fundamental problem at GF, the execs continue to cash in and the rest of us continue to get nothing. The execs are bleeding this company while everyone else suffers for lack of pay/benefits and our best talents continue to leave. How do we fix this? There should be a totally independent budget for exec promos and non-exec promos and each needs to be funded "fairly". However, we have an HR team and Senior Leadership Team who is clueless and selfish, only taking care of themselves and not the non-exec population at GlobalFoundries.

It has been well documented and established that the promotions at Globalfoundries are not merit based. They are based on seniority within team and follow repeating order pattern based on said this time with specific team. X gets it one year then next year Y gets it. Cycle repeats once through entire roster on team. Hope that helps.
