Thread regarding HP (Hewlett-Packard) layoffs

"Is it true that CW’s can only work for 2 years and if they need to continue they have to be converted to full time employees ?"

It depends on the CW's classification. If they are classified as a straight "contract worker" then they can only work 2-year contracts and have to have a 3-month hiatus before coming back for another 2 years.

If the CW is classified as an "Outsourced Contactor" then their contracts are renewed every year until no longer needed. I am an Outsourced contractor and this January I will be starting my 9th year.

As to becoming a full time HP you have to become an essential worker, meaning that no one else at HP can do your job. I know of 2 people that had that happen to them and they work in my department.

@wj not true at all. I have been a CW since 1997.

@tb you are lucky to get that. I have seen contracts written at the same price for years. The contract company is the one to go after. There is always wiggle room. You will get no bonus as a CW.

What about for CWs? I myself am one and started out at 30/hr then 40 after one year and 50 and 55 after the next two. Then things became stagnant for the next three years. Was just told that I will be getting another raise to 60/hr starting in January. I’ve had to move across three different staffing companies.

Can people share their annual bonus and merit raise? Is it decided by HR or your manager?

  • Full transparency, as a former Hpe/HP employee I also had to post this on the Hpe Layoff site today and again..kinda surprised by your question*

Respectfully, I am kinda surprised that anyone would post a question here, wondering about a raise and a bonus....
On a forum whose primary audience are people who have either gotten laid off, are about to be laid off or are really scared they are going to be laid off.
As a former employee..(and yes was laid off long ago) a little unsolicited advice..
Perhaps a little introspection and compassion to most of the users of this site.
All that said, sounds like you feel pretty secure about your employment status..(which if you work in the US in Tech..probably naive).
I wish you good luck in your future..and hopefully more awareness.

Next week, if not today (Friday 12th), your manager will share with you any salary increase or bonus. Don't have high expectations as the budgets were minimal given the company results amd next year head-winds.

Bonus would be paid 31st of December (therefore in January payslip for most countries) and salary increase is effective Feb 1st.
