The reason that ex-DELL employees are fascinated with this site, is because when you get laid off, you are told this is "just business". But at the end of the day, you take it personal, because, someone made a decision to let you go, and not let the person "sitting beside you" go. And, that means, either you are not as good at your job as they are, you don't have as much potential, or most likely, you have not played all of your political cards correctly, and someone likes someone else more than you. So it does feel personal, a bit rejected. And, afterwards, there is some odd sense of comradery with associating with like-minded people who that same thing happened to. Afterall, many times the company makes a mistake with the folks they chose to let go (probably because they didn't understand enough about what they did), so there is the feeling of satisfaction you may feel, hearing about how f$@ked up things are after you left. The best thing moving forward is just to support each other. No one likes the way this feels. And the sense of doom coming can be paralyzing. Best to keep your head down, prepare for worst, and if it happens, focus on your strengths and taking them to another company.
