Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

New hires

Just had some of the new hires quit. They worked a few weeks on the out of town jobs to see what the rr life is like.

Maybe UP should do a Super Bowl ad. And not a cheap 30 second ad. They need to do multiple 60 second ads. Anybody have any good ideas? Clint Eastwood in the engineer’s seat maybe ?

@sth Yeah my IQ is 60 and my manager’s is 50. I have to tie his shoes everyday and wipe his bottom. That’s why we still work for UP.

Too many people quitting makes an interesting kind of labor problem. Not really a strike or work stoppage , but still a big problem .

Back when lots of people were applying they could afford to be somewhat honest about the job conditions and expectations in an effort to weed out those unlikely to put up with it. But now with hardly anyone applying they have to sugar coat everything and hope they stick around after learning the truth.

Their hiring efforts are not keeping up with the rate of attrition let alone any supposed plans for 'growth', that is for certain.

This new generation doesnt tolerate as much sh--e as old dudes such as myself. Guys like me, we knew management was evil and you had to become numb to abuse to endure the years. The new kids expect leadership to have a soul! They quit when the first corrupt corporate kool aid na-i bears its fangs. Times change! lol

I know working here is a he ll of a culture shock. And idk what they're doing now to these new hires. But when they called my group in, they basically sold us for an hour on why we shouldn't come work here. Some of us still went for it. So it's not like they are given this b.s. facade as to how great this place is. Why even waste your time?

I was in that new hire class and the teacher passed gas right in my face when I was taking the hazmat test and then he asked me what chemical that was. Completely unprofessional. I quit immediately but I kept my courage to care shirt.

If the smart ones quit right away, why are you still here? What does your reply say about you and the rest of the current UP employees? Think about it.
