This question is for those who have had team mates or managers laid off but you were left unscathed. What has changed in your current role? Are you picking up the slack and doing the work of 2 or more? Were there any promotions or job title changes? If things have been made more difficult, how do you cope? What do you see for the future of your team?

Oh sh-t! Somebody just got busted for leaking the companies’ AI plans!
"AI content team rolls out in January"
tell us more..
I thank MH everyday that I still have a job, you know.
Is it true the AI content team rolls out in January? Say it isn’t so!
"First Fridays have become more and more tone deaf."
100% AGREED !!
You mean you didn't enjoy the layoffs and changes being compared to eating a kale salad? That didn't improve morale? How about the pulse survey with all the scores with increasing negative numbers? You weren't persuaded that the people answering with a neutral could become a positive? First Fridays have become more and more tone deaf. I think it might actually be encouraging talent to leave.
My counterpart resigned last week and I'm feeling nervous. I feel like the whole ANZ team are going to start dropping like flies. There is absolutely no morale in the company and the antics of people higher up are just embarrassing to watch.
We have lost such a valuable contributor to our entire schools team and no one has any idea about how they will be replaced or where their workload will go. Other than people will have to absorb it and not accept any sort of credit or pay rise or job title change that has any meaning.
They are definitely looking to cut costs in the STEM products as well. There have been meetings where it's been said that quality should be lowered to meet the customer's needs rather than exceed them. It's not that there won't be more layoffs affecting the STEM subjects, it's just they are still taking the steps to make these cuts. Upper management is confident customers won't notice. Reach out to the people in HED that work on the STEM products- most of them know there is more culling in the works.
They don’t care about quality. And they don’t care about HE unless you’re on Mankiw or one of the other big name titles. So many colleges are focused on saving money on textbook costs. With OA out there, does anyone need or want a $200 MindTap in non-STEM course areas? How much longer will Cengage keep investing in non-STEM subjects?
Is it just me or are we experiencing a massive increase in system problems, like customers having trouble with the databases and website? Did all system support get outsourced, too?
My job has been adversely affected by this ‘globalization’ as MH so affectionately calls it. He’s rolling out the pulse survey results as we speak. What a load of sh*t.
My new manager is lovely but has absolutely no idea about what I do, they have wayyyyy too many reports and do not turn up to actually important meetings about how we do what we do. Pretty sure that HE is not important at all to the company
"No promotions or title changes, just repetitions everyone should get on board and do what is best for the company's bottom line. Morale has tanked and several people are taking mental health days and/or job hunting."
Same for my team! The CMs are given until next year or so to quit. New postings will show up for internal employees (probably a handful of roles I'm assuming).
I will take the next offer I get for a hybrid or remote position. If the culture is going to the tank, why not take a job with with an extra 10-20K on my current base? I turned down interviews and one offer with more money on the base due to my love of the former Cengage culture.
Everyone in our department is working more with vendors because they save money. When they perform poorly we are told that we don't need high quality and we are meeting the customer at their needs. No promotions or title changes, just repetitions everyone should get on board and do what is best for the company's bottom line. Morale has tanked and several people are taking mental health days and/or job hunting.
Applying for jobs seems like a smart idea. I'm motivated.
The AI posts are creepy, weird, and in very poor taste. Apparently the moderators of this board agree as it appears two previous AI posts were scrubbed from the threads from last week.
My role hasn't changed but my interest in doing it certainly has. Currently I keep myself busy by seeing how many jobs I can apply to each day on company time. Cengage's Executive Team has lost the plot and from what I've seen they don't have what it takes to bring morale back up to what it once was.
@ssz+1ukqZNZI - what's up with the AI content?
What’s to worry about? The crack teams from India and the Philippines will take care of business and provided customers and learners what they require.
In the office, where the fluorescent lights gleam
A hollowed-out crew, a skeleton team
The workload's grown, but the hands are few
We're drowning in tasks, with no lifeline in view
The meetings linger, the emails pile high
We're juggling roles, with a nervous sigh
The pressure's mounting, the stress is too
We're just trying to keep up, but what's the clue?
We're the last ones standing, in a game of musical chairs
But the music's stopped, and we're left with the snares
We're searching for a lifeline, a beacon in the night
But it's hard to find hope, when the future's not in sight
Oh, the grind is real, the hours are long
We're running on fumes, our sanity's gone
Staff's been slashed, but the work remains
We're just trying to survive, but it's all in vain
