Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

Sincere question: what is keeping you here?

Why are you choosing to stay? What hopes do you have for Oxy? On the other hand, if you’re thinking about leaving, what is driving you away?

Lots of tough decisions being made here in the next few weeks for a lot of people, so just want to see what people think.

No bonus or LTI for you. That will solve your problem of feeling forced to stay working for a company with great base compensation and benefits. Perhaps people are no longer being given challenging assignments and that is why they have a bad attitude. It is hard to figure this out. What more do you want. You people are getting 9/80, great pay, and still only have to show up at the office only three days a week.

Bonuses and LTI are keeping me here. Between DIB and this netzero BS I can barely stand work. It’s completely impossible to understand where we are going as a company. I do not see myself in this industry for but another 2-3 years and then I’m leaving.

WFH and pay have kept me here, but I am looking around at remote-only roles, and a peer offered me almost double total comp for a contract position. I’m 50/50 at this point.

You must be from APC. This is the timing that Oxy has always used.

Lack of good opportunities outside Oxy and near term compensation over next year is only reason I’m sticking around. Many nights I wonder if the stress and misery is with the pay for 1 more year.

@sqm+1dppnQzp You didn’t miss the ball. Not sure what the heck is going on with HR but ridiculous for the short time frame for year end self assessment. It’s not like it snuck up on them. Typical dysfunction and inability to do basic things right that comes from underinvestment in key support groups that aren’t core money makers. Don’t get me started with IT!

Oxy = flexibility. Ha. Oxy's mgmt really likes to lie to everyone.

Cashing the next year bonus and LTI is keeping me here. Also WFH days. Oxy didn’t have massive layoffs and probably wouldn’t have anytime soon.

Fine, you can work from home every day of the week but not for Oxy. Sh-t, grow up man.

  1. Being able to work from home has kept me. Productivity and collaboration occur at a greater efficiency via Teams than in person for everyone including extroverts. 90% of what @hsa+1dppnQzp mentions.
  2. To be able to work from home the entire week so I can move to a different area. For Oxy to quickly pay off debt and fully accomplish the LCV aspirations.
  3. Not being able to work from home the entire week. Oxy's debt. When increasing the stock's divided in the future don't forget about the employees. Some salaries you offer are not competitive with current market rates and cost of living so adjustments should happen.

Where have you been. It is always this time of year. It is good that you are busy but it helps if your boss and his/her boss know about how value driven you are. You have to spoon feed them.

WFH is the best. In March, I plan to look at other wfh opportunities, but I would only be willing to take a small pay cut. Long term incentives mature in March.

Did anyone else get surprised by the short notice deadline for end of the year performance assessments? So incredibly busy - it really bothers me they didn’t give us at least two weeks heads up. Maybe I missed the ball?

HR really needs to re-communicating the 350 hour PTO cap. Go to Oxynet->My HR->Time Away->Paid Time Off. At the bottom of the chart 350 is stated. More helpful is the FAQ linked to the right.

Can you explain the cap of 350 hours? I thought we could only carry-over 120.

The previous comment came from a mature professional. It is hard to disagree with anything they said.

Job I have is pretty nice and I am well paid with salary, benefits, etc. Five weeks a year PTO and can carry a cap of 350 hours is nice. The Woodlands campus and offices are very nice and have cafeteria, workout facility, etc. Only going into the office 3 days a week, so I really have nothing to complain about. even if my boss were a jerk I would be crazy to give up this job. Don't forget the 7% 401K and 7% retirement they put in as well. WFH is nice, but i think it has isolated people and we all can use the 3 days a week interacting. Many will say not, but if you look past yourself you can see how as a whole interacting will help Oxy. Plus, these prices and focusing on debt might get us out of the debt ho-e. With the revenue this year next Feb should look pretty good for bonuses as well.

My reasons for staying have morphed since we’ve had this wfh experiment and I realized what a game changer it can be. Now flexibility far outweighs any other factor. Keeping a close eye on all other o&g companies policies now and in the future. Looking at flexibility and whether they have a culture of treating professionals like professionals (which tend to go hand in hand).
