This is literally the job that Pat has wanted his whole life. He left Intel when PSO made it clear he wouldn't get it. And he showed them - named one of the top CEOs in the country at VMWare. If you see what is happening at VMware and Dell, you can see that there is now an opportunity for him to return that wouldn't have existed 2 years ago when there was a hope VMware would be a standalone company. Now VMware market cap is more than Dell, that owns most of VMware...so guess where that is heading.

Pat probably feels like he owes it to Andy to fix Intel...

Pat was a "boy wonder" at Intel and could do no wrong — until Larrabee. I was working at Intel at the time and remember always assuming that Pat would someday be CEO. His departure came as such a shock to a lot of us, as does his return.

He might have what it takes to turn Intel around.

I laughed when I read the circuit comments thanking Bob. If it is not done with integrity blah blah. Thanking him for his integrity and transparency

What is wrong with our times? People believe in what they hear not what they see and experience. Crazy.

Bob hasn’t acted as a person with high integrity. while cutting employees, employee benefits, giving employees min increases both as CFO and CEO, he gave himself and his hires extremely rich compensation packages. He reduced the stock purchase plan, retirement plan benefits (small potatoes) while getting $100m compensation in the year intel failed to execute under his leadership. He lied about layoffs. And did it intentionally by not addressing the question directly and honestly. You remember there will be no company wide layoffs. It meant there will be department focus layoffs. He laid off people during The holidays and covid, while he was getting $100million dollar compensation.

Folks judge people based on what they do not what they say.

Good riddance. Bob caused intel tremendous damage both as cfo (path to 30) and CEO.

Bye BOB.

That was quick. Seems to have been directly because of the activist investor call which was only a few weeks ago.

Pat has been gone a long time and most of the EVP that where his buddies are gone.

He has industry credibility to make big changes and really big changes are going to be needed.

The industry is far different than when he made his make with 80386 and 80486 and his Itanium, LOL

Don’t forget he was there leading the charge at some of the first FUBARs at Intel

This is really good news for Intel. Hopefully he has carte blanche from the board to fully clear out the Intel swamp and move forward!

Pat was, and likely still is, a great leader. Intel will thrive under his leadership I am sure. He will take no prisoners when clearing out the chuff and deadwood that has accumulated in the years of his absence. It will be wonderful to have a technologist with a clear head and far-sighted vision at the helm again.

I predict and hope that this website will be soon populated with a new group of formerly senior boot-lickers, powerpoint shufflers, and tiers of management which only look upwards while maneuvering and jostling for the appearance of doing productive work. The dumpsters at the back of Intel will soon be full of all those thesauruses used to hide the sheer incompetence of managers with more ambition and greed than ability.
