Thread regarding SAP layoffs

SAP to track AI adoption

I was told by my manager that SAP is launching a global AI adoption program and will track the usage of LLMs and other AI features on SAP products. They plan to coincide the launch with Sapphire so there will also be a big buzz about it. I bluntly asked if this is going to be used to determine one's performance and my manager said yes. Apparently, we are all supposed to use AI as much as possible in our day to day work and improve efficiency and productivity by doing more work in less time. Our area is deciding to add an area level performance goal that everyone contributes to but we are also asked to include AI in our other goals.

I really don't get it. Yes, I find AI somewhat useful in my work especially if I am researching something. But NO it is not gamechanging to my work. I feel so disappointed by this move that I plan to only use AI but not get work done because no one cares about work anymore and all they care about AI adoption. I feel like we are training our replacements. If AI is useful, why does management need to force everyone to use it?

Half of our management can't even use AI because they are too old school and because they only use German in emails and chats and conversations and AI is somewhat useless in German. Is this also happening in other areas now?

@cd I the works council only care for Germany, maybe Europe.

I don't think they have any say what happens in other countries like the US.

@sm look at the bright side. Retaining your job relies on Microsoft Excel spreadsheet technology.

We have to fill in a spreadsheet now detailing what AI tools we are using and how often. When you configure Hyperspace AI on your SAP laptop you can see a running count of your token usage so they can track how much you are using AI. I've been using it with Claude Code and admit that it is very impressive.

I was told the same by colleagues (Managers), that we needed to start using AI tools and stay active on them because this will be tracked and used to stay or let go.

@cd the works council is a rubber stamp for almost everything group executives want. These are career politicians and the same people get elected every time. And if you look at their past actions, you will find that all they do is keep themselves safe and turn their backs on employees. That is why even the voter turnout for these elections is so low. If they had a spine, they would look into getting rid of managers who haven't done any work in the past many years but consistently focus on being visible and increasing their network.

@c9 Nope. The works council must approve such tools and measures.

They have a committee which discusses these topics with management.

@c3 approval needed for layoffs, maybe. But not for AI usage tracking and giving performance reviews based off it.

I'm old and spending claude tokens like a drunk in Vegas.

Also using EKX do all kinds of my work.

In Europe the works council would have to approve this. Therefore it is unlikely to happen.

So they are already tracking how much we are online on the Microsoft Apps like Outlook and Teams. And now this? Are they going to connect it to Performance Management and use it for layoffs?
