Restlessly tossing and turning with dreams of Zoom windows flashing up on a screen and my dead eyed boss thanking me for my contributions 😩 I just wish I could get a PDF or something (if it’s happening) and be done with it without having to be traipsed in front of a bunch of HR goons after dedicating YEARS to this shitpit.

I'm in my angry phase. I could go either way. I don't want to have to find a new job, but if the severance was enough to allow me to find a good next job without worry or really financially noticing, I'd be okay. Whether you're let go or not, there are upsides and downsides. If you're let go with severance, you're free to be relieved by this and off to new stress of finding a new job. If you're not let go tomorrow, you still have to wonder about "phase 3" and then whatever Skydance does. The work isn't going to stop and people will have to pick up work of people no longer here (or work on shutting down P+, which I honestly think is the more likely).

Remember a few things:

  1. This layoff is a failure of LEADERSHIP (or lack thereof) not you or your performance, though it can feel like that.
  2. If you're in CA or NY make sure you're at least getting the WARN Notice required severance, it will likely be that or 2wks per year of service whatever is more.
  3. Ask about all things you may have accumulated ie bonuses, RSUs, 401K funds, health insurance, dental insurance, eye insurance, etc
  4. Apply for unemployment (you won't get it until severance is done but it's a process so do it immediately).
  5. Don't sign anything without a lawyer at least reading it. Legal Shield or some other law service is pretty cheap and they do this - review contracts - if you can't negotiate at least know what you're signing.
  6. Take some time to yourself if you can to realign and regroup. This is a lot.
  7. Open to Network on LinkedIn and connect with all your colleagues
  8. Reach out to your network that you are looking
  9. Reach out to your school alumni associations, any associations who may know someone who knows someone who can help you.
  10. Tailor your resume and cover letter with keywords in the jobs you are applying for. Research the company. Know why you want to work there and why you're a fit.

Take care. Good Luck.

I've survived 4 rounds of layoffs (Showtime then Paramount) and this is really the first round where I truly belive my time is up...

Im on a team that has already been impacted but i survived. I’d wish you good luck but i now see downside to either scenario. Yeah it’s good to keep your job for a while longer but if y have the same experience I do you’ll be told that the team should stop working on certain things to make up for the loss. Your boss will tell your team that they are there for support and if there are problems. After a really brief sorrow period for your team, other teams at the company will expect your team to operate as though you are at full capacity. Your boss will inevitably just let you work more unless you tell them that you can’t do multiple jobs. Not sure what their answer would be to that since when there are layoffs they don’t expect any pushback from those who remain. If they fire you it’s horrible stress for you and your family. But at least you get to see your family and I’d like to believe that wherever you land next can’t be as crazy as your time would be at post layoff paramount. Good luck whatever that means. If you’re out, I hope you find something soon — maybe you’ll find media i a unique torture chamber and you can be just as happy elsewhere

"...I know someone on my team that is not getting laid off..."
How did you came to learn they're NOT getting laid off? I thought all laid off people names are being kept in a shroud of mystery until tomorrow, except for some higher ups that know for sometime.

Age meaning older or younger? If you’re their manager or colleague you should approach them and broker a severance package to get them out. If someone isn’t performing they likely don’t want to be there anyways. And you can use your influence to help the team

I haven’t been able to sleep the last few days and have felt extremely sad. What bothers me the most is know that my layoff won’t be performance or merit based. I know someone on my team that is not getting laid off that has added zero value to the team and frankly the organization. They are probably safe purely because the team I’m on values age over work ethic and what they have brought into the company

It’s Simply sad. There are really Good people here and the company did once have a great culture. It’s been so hard ever since 2020 to get it back. I blame the leadership, hybrid working and the strikes in Hollywood too. Hopefully SD can turn it around in 2025.

Annoyed by the number of meetings I have today and tomorrow with parts of the company not being affected. Would have preferred taking today off as some suggested. Sad that soon I’ll be saying goodbye to sooo many colleagues. Hoping I’m out as well and not left roaming the real and virtual hollow halls.
