Thread regarding University of Texas at Austin layoffs

Liberty Institute

So much for academia. This is sophistry to provide cover for oil and gas.

Any updates to this state-sponsored right wing propaganda machine?

@ein+1cZ4WheW, in the meantime, humanity faces the consequences of climate chaos, to include increasing droughts, famines, disease, and conflicts. That's something that national security experts have known for decades. That's why Bryan Alexander's upcoming book "Universities on Fire" will be a must read.

@ein+1cZ4WheW O&G got us into the 20th century. It will be very difficult to ween off of it without major social, economic and global disruptions (disasters actually), it is the foundation of our world economy. You want off oil? Then you have to stop consuming anything made out of plastic, forget about lubricants and chem components for medicine, ag...etc and pretty much every sector of the economy relying on refining oil and using nat. gas byproducts. You want to get off oil? Use less energy and transition from a 'consumer' to a calculated citizen, with emphasis on the local part of the citizen because mobility en masse will be problematic. Don't put the cart in front of the horse, oil will eventually be scarce, hard to extract and eventually will be too expensive for daily use, we are almost there (shale and fracking), it will go away, with coal and nat gas following. Concentrate on how to to cope with that, that's where the money will be in the future. Eolian energy and PV panels are not reliable, a short term solution, eventually we'd have to get back to splitting atoms. That will be the only option, with all the resulting nasty byproducts. Eventually there will be less bling in the economy, less conveniences and limited choices. And that is not gonna be transitory, nor we'll be able to print our way out of it.

Debate carefully!

More Ayn Rand societies in academia. Proof of the money, for sure.
From a disinfo perspective, these little thunk-tunks keep the fires burning for the powers that be. If it weren't Ayn, it'd be Gobblesprech or somebody.
Don't expect anything earth-shattering, just more the same.
At least Texas U is state run - right? Citizens and all running it?

I'm Canadian, but I think any magazine called 'Texas Monthly' might be O&G friendly.

@sfq+1cZ4WheW, Liberty Institute is a center for right wing propaganda. I am willing to debate. I'm sure there are professors at UT Austin that could also debate the idea of using tens of millions in state funds for this right-wing anti-intellectual institution.
