Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

How Pat destroyed Intel

Even 3.5 years ago, there was a chance to prevent a total collapse that we are now witnessing.

  1. Instead of cutting bloat gradually since 21, the clueless CEO hired 35k people. The crazy HR lady and the subservient CFO looked the other way.
  1. Instead of controlling spending, Pat gave massive raises, took ELT to Davos, kept flying charter jets. $100B Capex. Borrow like crazy. Oh so much more.
  1. Instead of fixing products, Pat hired retired grandpas like Sunil Shenoy and utterly clueless leadership like Shlomit. Then there were do-nothing leaders like Koduri.
  1. Instead of fixing TD, left clueless Ann in charge and forced an unrealistic and unnecessary schedule (5N4Y) that cost billions.
  1. Instead of actually focusing on understanding what went wrong, he then focused on begging Biden for $$$ and cooked up a national security story. Hint: China will never do something reckless in Taiwan. And even if they did, leading edge, chips from Intel would be the least of our problems. The world would still come to a screeching halt because most of the chips use legacy process nodes.
  1. When revenue tanked in 22, Pat did nothing. When revenue tanked in 23, he cut pay. Then restored it immediately because we had “bottomed out”.
  1. Of course, he was wrong, so when revenue tanked further in 24, he suddenly woke up and gave 20,000 a very generous severance that will end up costing the company $10B, effectively using up all our cash reserves.
  1. Literally 20000 people spent the last 10 weeks looking for jobs outside while waiting to collect their fat packages.
  1. Meanwhile, Gaudi bombed. Falcon Shores will never see light of the day. Xeon is being replaced by AMD faster than ever. Oh also, 18A - it’s going to be 2026 “a big maybe” until it becomes ready for manufacturing and it will be behind tsmc on cost and performance.
  1. Every day this buffoon stays at the helm is a day lost.
  1. Pat took a struggling yet cash rich company and literally put it on the fast track to bankruptcy.

Techs in AZ on avg received 20% raises this year.
Which made my ERP payout 20% higher then if we had a normal pay cycle.
Clueless leadership.

Correct! And you want to be on the fabless side at all costs. FAB side will turn into a cesspool

The correct strategy was to divest the fabs and go fabless.

Lunar lake and Arrow lake are great examples of what fabless can do.

There are many fabless companies generating more value than Intel right now.

It makes sense on so many levels.
Risk and capex is spread across many foundry customers. There’s no advantage to IDM when you don’t have the volumes to support the economy of scales needed to operate leading edge fabs.

Of course, Intel (Pat) picked the worst strategy of all which puts the entire company at risk and has an extremely low probability of success.

I think Intel problems are beyond Pat, let's be honest and evaluate the situation without negative emotions, Intel didn't comeuppance with any game changer product in the last 15 years, this is the time Nvidia and AMD and TSMC ruled the world.
Pat is just someone took the opportunity and collected $200M from a sinking ship

Pat is doing his job extremely well.

His job isn't to run Intel. His job is to run Intel in to the dirt so it can be sold off for parts...

What do you know about Gaudi or Xeon or 18A rollout plans under way? If you really work at Intel and draw compensation, you should be ashamed of yourself for spreading lies and maliciously biting the fingers feeding you and your family. May the heavens redeem you all in this lifetime

You missed Chief of SATG, GL, Pat's buddy from VMware, announce Intel could earn 1B/2B revenue from SW sales which we all know is BS.

Here's the kicker : Intel has become simply irrelevant.

  1. Imagine a world where Foundry business shuts down. TSMC is more than willing and able to satisfy demand of Intel Products.
  1. Imagine a world where Intel Products business is sold or dramatically shrinks. Plenty of good CPU options exist that are just as competitive (actually more) and cost less.
  1. What is it that Intel brings to the world today that is unique and something that nobody else can do?
