@OP trying to understand this in my first year. I’m tebg. I got 100%. There is no explanation of how we hit the number 100 on the nose. And it gave me a chuckle that it was actually 99% of what the damn total comp I signed says. After reading all these posts I’m guessing this I am naive if I expect some transparent explanation of the flat 100 in each performance category and just be happy I got something right????

I always had to chuckle a little when I hear you Americans talking about your health insurance and all that. I’m not super deep into the topic myself, since I’m from Europe and work for 3M, and things like health insurance and retirement plans are already included for us. Not because of 3M or anything — that’s just how it works by law back home.
And I’m sure for some of you we probably just sound like “European lefties” since we already have all that stuff in place. But honestly, over there it’s not even this huge political debate in everyday life — it’s just the system we grew up with.
The factory guy complaining about not getting AIP reminds me of when I worked in one of the union plants. Production always talked about how salaried medical and dental benefits were so much better. One year during contract negotiations, the union demanded the same medical and dental plans that salaried employees had. 3M gladly agreed since they would no longer have the administrative expense of maintaining separate plans for the local union. That November, one of the more vocal members of the union committee who pushed for the benefit change asked if I had time to "go look at something on the computer". He logged in to the benefits enrollment site and asked if the medical and dental plan choices were the same as what I had. I said they were. He asked if the monthly premiums were the same. I pointed to the medical and dental plans I was enrolled in and said the premiums shown on his screen were the same as what I was paying. Then he commented on the high deductible of the medical plan I was in and I confirmed my deductible was indeed that high. Then I showed him the Benefits Enrollment Guide for salaried and non-union employees on the "intranet" so he could see for himself. He looked stunned and just said "Thanks". I wanted to say "Next time be careful what you ask for", but I just walked away.
I’m enjoying listening to the whiny factory workers getting a reality check when they did their taxes and found out that “no tax on overtime” was a sham. How did that double time phantom deduction work out for you? Y’all should pay more attention to the details of what’s being said and stop falling for the slogans that just make you feel good.
I’ll be lobbying for adding AIP to factory and non-nons pay every chance I get.

The cry baby factory worker is right. Factory workers should get AIP, too. It's the fair thing to do. I vote we set them up with 7.5% target AIP. When cry baby figures out how it really works, he'll be on here bit**ing that his paycheck has been the same for 3 years in a row because his 2.5% annual pay raises all went into the AIP variable pay pool instead of going into his biweekly paychecks. Groceries and utilities will keep going up year after year while his paycheck stays the same, but he'll figure out a way to get by until he gets his big "bonus" check next March.

@td unfortunately for bonuses there are two set of books for BB. Book 1 d-mbs down the AIP by excluding the positive metrics and emphasizing negative metrics. What should be an AIP close to 150 get "adjusted" to 120 for the unwashed masses.
Meanwhile BB and his handpicked cronies use a "secondary" metric more tied to stock price. Voila! 200 percent payout.

You'd need a system unions to be effective.
I don't see the line workers standing in solidarity when the scrum masters go on strike to demand more money and another week of PTO, when those guys already make twice what the line workers make.
If there was a union 130 percent could easily be negotiated but now everyone is at the mercy of bean counters.
With 3M share price at recent years high, it is a disservice if the AIP payout is anything below 130%.

Based on last year's surge in share price. It shows that BB has led company to super results. Do expect 130% AIP at least.
