Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Just got off the call…

20 percent of team gone, not even being offshored. The positions are gone. The irony is the directors/managers who found out who’s impacted on their team do not know if they themselves are impacted (only their boss will be told at this time ). So the final number could be higher in department. Just a terrible way to do things. So if you are a leader and get a random call today from boss, hr, or a vp you barely ever interact with you will know someone on team is impacted.

And no fmla will not save you.

Best of luck to everyone, on one hand it su-ks but on other hand at least everyone can move forward (for one month before the survivors are pulled into the ringer again)

@a6 I'm sure every manager may do it differently but for me just randomly got a meeting invite for 30 minutes (didn't take that long) from a sr exc. nothing unusual given I was with sr leadership often. Just assumed new work/ new project then my manger was also in there said hi and right to mute read a script and off I went and after all my meets/tag ups got canceled chilled for a few weeks and out you go.

@s6 managers and directors had had their scoring in by the end of last month. That’s when they were chosen. I think if you’ve never been a manager or a Director and had to go through this, you wouldn’t understand it.

@ry if the people were chosen last month why do we have to wait until Friday to know who gets cut? Doesn’t make sense that they changed the date to Friday just because of a holiday.

@s0 what do you mean you already got notice of your teams cuts? Are you a manager and we’re already notified of whos being let go?

@f1 thank you! I have been saying the same thing on this site. HUGE cuts enterprise wide and NOT just Optum. I already got the notice if my teams cuts and it’s such a large amount Ive never seen this many in my history at this company. You hit the nail on the head with every division you named and how/what is rolling into AI!

I got the call too and it su-ks. This upcoming week is going to be sh---y. All I can say is anyone who is affected- remember this decision was made way high up and last month. And also remember that this company is NOT the end all be all…. Pick up your chin, get your resume ready and move forward. You will be good and in a year you will look back and think about how this was a small blurb in the big picture. It’s going to affect so many people throughout UHG, you’re not alone!

@f1 do you know of a timeline around CXDP cuts?

@f1 Makes sense. We have duped tech products everywhere. Tech is really driving what/how products are built. Not product. I for one am looking forward to consolidating and getting more control over what is being built and more governance in place. That has been missing for several years. We have a lot of program/project teams that are box checkers and report on the work of others, adding zero value. Babysitting days are done.

Most rank and file don't understand how deep this will be. OI Product has ~1,400 people - at least 30% will be gone. OT, too. Major re-org. Similar cuts across Ops that supported lost clients and sunsetting products. OH is ongoing culls. OF will see cuts as it merges with OI. Parts of OA and all of OI itself will disappear into Optum AI as SD has everything converge around OAI.

Next will come commercial and CXDP/marketing teams. Way too many different teams and people selling stuff. Going to have a major reorg that will cut commercial people.

IOI is just too low and SD isn't having it. The brutal math is cut a big chunk of payroll equivalent to the desired boost in IOI. Another major shift we won't hear about publicly is doubling down to ensure the success of UHC and payer side. Also, we'll continue to try licking the boot of the feds as they will kick us in the face again and again.

@OP my guess is operational teams that were used to support the million plus members that don't exist this year. The tech and insight teams got hit hard last year and at the beginning of the year.

@ab people who cheered this guy coming back were not around his first go. He cut staff to the bone and left under a cloud of insider trading

Rumbling of reorg.. managers unusually busy for new year, decisions delayed to see what happens. We’re going to go through monthly RIFs till June. Not sure how we get things gone when the foundation keeps moving under us. However this is the way of our new strategy with SH. If we complain someone else will accept the pay to do it. That is the name of the game around here

I just had a manager postpone a regular Thursday meeting due to an issue they were intentionally vague about. Seems like something's up.
