Thread regarding Edward Jones layoffs

Is ELT blind, stupid or both?

After the events of the last 24 months (RTO, layoffs, offshoring circa 2002, HBA elimination, etc.), I find myself asking on a regular basis, "is the ELT actually this stupid?" I mean, they're using short term tactics that reek of the early 2000s to get a quick bump in revenue but will ultimately crash & burn everything they've touched within the next 5-10 years.

Moreover, how can anyone be so willfully blind that the rank and file completely, wholly, totally and utterly hate the firm's leadership right now? Is it just a severe case of rectal/cranial inversion (i.e. are their heads up their collective as*es), or are they planning a complete destruction of this firm by the time PP ages out of the MP office so they can take their fat payouts and bail on everyone whose lives they've ruined?

@34s this is spot on. I watch these people closely and they look like they have been drained of any compassion or human like behaviors. These people would throw their own grandmothers off a cliff if they knew it would get them another promotion. Money and control are their gods. If they could fire 90% of home office tomorrow and send it all to india they would do it in a heart beat.

They are psychopaths/sociopaths that deep down know that they bring nothing to the table and are the definition of mediocrity. Instead of actively looking to grow as human being, they copy playbooks and look in in-act control and use fear tactics vs. reflecting inwardly and trying to be true leaders and human beings.

These people are unloved, spiteful, miserable people that have no clue they are lucky to be in the seats they're in. They we're beneficiaries of privilege and being in the right places at the right times. They are perfect examples of "pass the trash" in corporate America.

@z9 so you're saying a firm hired pp to compensate for decades of only having white men in the seat?

Seems like the prior decades of non-diverse leadership led to a poor/rushed decision. Imagine a world where people are chosen due to qualifications regardless of what they look like....

@z4 to be fair though, she was picked not on being the most qualified person. They needed a woman in that spot to check the box of "first woman", because it was at the height of the me too movement where we wanted good PR. We had about 10 seconds of good PR before penny realized she was in way over her head and decided to bring in conultants to "guide" her instead of using existing talent here. Her mindset is one of arrogance and narcisism. We all see where it has led us.

Truly stupid. As you called out, all of these tactics are focused on creating a short term return...which matters for publicly held companies. Doing this as a privately held company that doesn't host quarterly earnings calls is beyond d-mb.

Imagine being ELT right now. You are tasked with making the company better, but instead your only accomplishment is destroying everything you touch. You're hated by 95% of the company and have nothing to show for your bloated salaries other than the lowest morale the company has ever had and one embarrasing L after another. You live in an echo chamber because you can't even interact with normal people. Your social akwardness and detachment from reality stick out like a sore thumb. You think you are "winning" because you were behind the first wave of layoffs ever in company history which led to major talent loss and more indian contractors who break stuff 24/7. Record low morale now says a lot after being here during the 08 crash. You inherit a solid company with over 100yrs of mostly positive reputation around the country and st louis, and you completely fumbled it at the goal line on first down, but blame everyone but yourself. Then, instead of listening to people who actually DO the work (unlike them), they lash out. Petty, vicious, mean girl antics are now our "culture". They think sh1tting on the people who make this place function will yield them the numbers they need. It won't, and it will be yet another failure by them which will then lead to even more insane, sociopath behavior by this "sheocracy" penny has installed. These people are souless, ugly ghouls who need psych evaluations.

250 Home office “partners” cowering down trying to keep their jobs and not losing their GP earnings by upsetting the above

Pinch of opportunistic, 30 year old BCG and McKinsey consultants leaching the company dry

Mix and let sit until 2028.

They are both and then some. It makes no sense though how so many "smart" people can all agree that the best way to make money is to wreck the company as quickly as possible. Do these mo--ns not read economics or business books? You don't (and never will) build a successful business by hating your employees, outsourcing everything you can to india, and building a toxic work environment that focuses on micro management with cult like behavior. Also, you will make more money long term by actually keeping not only clients happy, but branches and home office. Almost as if we should operate as a TEAM perhaps? But no, this is now a petty wanna be dictatorship run by insecure smooth brain scociopaths. It starts at the top too with PP and her stupid rooftop garden.
