UMC Announces 28eHV+

While GF is doing little to nothing for new technologies, UMC is out developing programs like 28eHV+ which will eat GF's lunch and dinner in the display driver world. Once a flagship market with customers like Magnachip, GF is once again lagging behind the competition due to reducing R&D investment in order to enhance the books and make financial numbers short-term look good. The collapse of GF is starting to happen, it is going to be a rough ride, fasten your seatbelts and hope they don't call your number in the next layoff!!! Or maybe you will get lucky and get a nice package which enables you to take some time off courtesy of GF and do your job search while being paid by GF. Personally, not knowing when the next layoff is coming and just waiting for AIP to come out on 3/10, I already have my plan "B" in place and will enjoy on Monday 3/13 setting up a 1 on 1 with my manager and giving him my 2 weeks' notice. The end of working at GF under this exec leadership team is coming, only 15 more working days until my next adventure, very excited but at the same time feel bad for my friends left behind who in some cases are trapped to stay at GF.

People like @rsk are the reason GF is in the free fall it is in. If you ignore the competition, they will take your market share. GF is losing market share to UMC and TSMC across the board. UMC is now a $10B revenue company which was lagging GF 2-3 years ago, whereas GF is an $8B revenue company. UMC has gross margins of 45% but GF can barely get to 29% while selling off fabs. GF is not even Tier2 fab now with UMC, it should be categorized as a Tier 3. Reader sold off something like $17M in shares in Dec-Feb. The writing is on the wall, the ship is sinking and even the execs are jumping in the lifeboats already!!!

GF is in middle of transformation from “the” foundry to “a” foundry and let us be patient and watch the process. This requires all talents( if any left) to vacate GF and let a-s kickers, boot lickers and incompetents to take the driver seat. If you can not leave , just stay and watch this ugly but not changeable transformation. If you have courage, leave for companies who value talent, employees and drive.

Frankly I am not comparing GF with these competitive foundries now. GF and it’s employees should be very clear that it is their fate that was decided already, when GF made a pivot from cutting edge, when GF let go all talents without any bothering for impact, when GF allowed toxic people like PB and HP to have their toxic and racist approach rule the fate of AME, when a-s licking became the main promotion criteria in AME and integration.
Let us GF die of its death that is no brainer. I see we challenging each other to leave GF asap but let us keep in mind that not each of us are made to lead and take the challenges. We need mediocre to stay in GF as this is best for them.
My words may sound harsh but tune will be answer.
