Thread regarding Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) layoffs

The bloodbath of July 14th and 15th

Got the axe today, it does not make any business sense whatsoever. I don't think management knows what they are doing.

The trolling in this thread is as poor quality as HPE's software.
Look OP, judging by your writing, you are clearly overqualified for whatever role you were in. You're insightful, articulate, passionate, and obviously a person who's primary language is English. In short, you are not the correct "type" of person HPE is looking to retain or hire.

@13s Wow, maybe you work with the HR team, because that statement makes about as much sense as them making the determination I wasn't worth keeping around. Clearly they knew nothing about my workload or contributions to the team I was a part of. How dare you make such a nasty comment. I was capable of managing my own responsibilities as well as a colleagues while on leave because of my ability to adapt, prioritize and get the job done whatever it takes, as opposed to whatever it is you're implying. I'm thinking if my manager was offering up his job instead of me losing mine I must have been doing something right.

@rs I received my WFR call on May 5th after 18 years of service, my manager was extremely upset as it left him in quite the predicament considering we were already a short staffed team and I was covering for a colleague who was out on medical leave. HPE's HR team are a ruthless bunch, but karma is a B, what goes around comes around sooner or later. No loyalty or respect whatsoever. However, I've never been happier, no longer do I live under the black cloud of re-orgs, layoffs, bad acquisitions etc.. My husband has been fighting cancer for the last two years, now I can focus on what truly matters in life and I won't have any regrets, a blessing in disguise for sure. God speed to those still in the trenches or out there embarking on the next chapter.

Management isn’t given a choice. HR mandates your layoff, management has to obey. It doesn’t have to make sense unfortunately.

@b8 Essential implies the organization can’t carry on without them. My guess is it will, proving they weren’t in fact essential.

@ba Upper* management. The lay off wasn't done by the managers from what I understand. It came all the way from the top.

@dz I joined Juniper for that reason but looks like HPE is an even better place to coast for the final few years.

@b8 oh wow sorry to hear. I hope everything works out for you. I thought AI roles would be "safe" to an extent cause they are pushing AI and stuff in products now.

@de I joined HPE in my 50s to coast into retirement. It's working out so far.

Sorry to hear that. Getting laid off blows - it’s happened to me. My initial perspective coming in as a Junivator - wow, this place is awfully slow and painfully methodical. Just initial impressions, but quite a bias for inaction - no doubt that culture comes from the top. Juniper is way more decentralized. Upper mgmt empowers the people down low. All of the sudden I see a lot of barriers to getting things done. But I guess there are upsides. I’ll relax in this cozy country club for a while as I plot my next move.

I left voluntarily five years ago because it was clear to me that management has no clue. I’m doing much better financially and probably should have left HPE twenty years ago.
