Thread regarding VMware layoffs

If you survived this long…

Consider this

If you had 100 shares of VMware stock, each worth $100 in May 2022, your total investment would have been $10,000.

Broadcom announced the acquisition of VMware later that month @ $142 per share.

After the acquisition, due to a 10-to-1 stock split, your now had 1,000 shares of Broadcom.

As of yesterday, avgo is at $225, making your original shares worth $225,000.

To achieve this same growth through a fixed interest rate investment over the 2.5-ish years from May 2022 to December 2024, you would have needed an annual return of approximately 233%

Let that sink in for a bit.

If you do the same math for NVidia , 100 shares in May 2022 @ 187 is around $19K. A stock split of 10-1, so 1000 shares @135 now worth $135k. That’s a fixed interest rate of 115%

So Hock has given you 2x more in returns than the poster child of growth, nvidia.

Time to take some money off the table if you survived this long.

I wish many colleagues were not laid off - many id--ts still remain - in particular middle managers who don’t deserve any of this profit - but that is the case at every large company.

To the Hock haters, it isn’t sustainable to run a company like a woke party and not efficiently run the business.

Could Hock be less extreme - yes - however, if you survived this long you should be grateful for having participated, unwillingly or not, in one of the best and likely life changing investments of your life.

You will get no sympathy from anyone that you don’t get Betsy’s or Pat’s hugs anymore,’or that you have to show up to an office and zoom with remote colleagues. Su-k it up for a few years and take the money and run. Find meaning elsewhere with your profits if you were lucky enough to get rich.

If you didn’t get rich , it’s because your job level is too low and you should look for work elsewhere, as there is no upside for you, just pain.

I made it this far with Broadcom and do absolutely nothing. A bunch of meetings and busy work while I keep cashing in RSUs. This is f-c*ing awesome. Thanks again Hock.

Nvidia stock is in a correction. Microsoft’s CEO may have just said something very worrying.

The math here is inaccurate. For one thing it was a cash + stock acquisition, and the stock renumeration was extremely over-subscribed. However, it is true that anyone who held VMW common stock pre-acquisition, and held it, has done quite well.

If you have friends at SMCI then don't forget to send your condolences. Christmas came early for them. They should have sold in April before they stopped filing reports with SEC.

Jensen Huang boooob singing ceo of NVDA is now under investigation for the crypto pump and dump. Supreme court order. No one can save him now.

SMCI is now taken out of Nasdaq 100. They can't delist overnight. It would be an insult to all the investors who pumped it to the moon. SMCI frauds have not filed annual and quarterly reports to SEC for more than 6 months.

The AI pump and dump will be investigated in 2027. SMCI AI fraud is already being played out in the stock listing. The criminal investigation will start in 2027.

Enjoying the crack up boooooom santa rally. Dooon't forget to open the present and enjoy it. If you don't sell then you don't get to keep the present.

Santa baby, just slip a Sable under the tree for me
Been an awful good girl
Santa baby, so hurry down the chimney tonight

Santa baby, a '54 convertible too, light blue
I'll wait up for you, dear
Santa baby, so hurry down the chimney tonight

Think of all the fun I've missed
Think of all the fellas that I haven't kissed
Next year, I could be just as good
If you check off my Christmas list
Santa baby, I want a yacht, and really, that's not a lot
Been an angel all year
Santa baby, so hurry down the chimney tonight

Still doesn't change the fact that Raghu turning over the CEO role to Betsy or whoever was running HR at the destroyed the soul of the company
I was basically reprimanded for pointing out that meanwhile, as the company was shoving BLM cr-p down everyone's throat, they were burning down small businesses in mostly black neighborhoods after looting and pillaging of course

Maybe read the thread with the updated calc before posting.

95% return since acquisition.

Yea , let’s complain about that, let’s let some more mumbo jumbo armchair financial predictions fly!

What a bunch of babies in here. Waaaaaah, waaah waaah. Many folks won the lottery.

No one can predict the top comment - duh - thanks Captain obvious. You wait for the top, I’ll cash out my Dec vest asap.

@op well the smartest person in the world, let’s do the math again. If you had 100. Broadcom paid 147 for 50 of them nd the rest of them they paid you with an AVGO for every 4 of VMW.

Now you want to fill in the blanks?? @op

It is very difficult to catch the top. No one can catch the exact top. The presidential cycle is peaking. Generally the first year of a new president is to clear the decks and air all the dirty laundry. The cycle troughs in the year 1. That is 2025. So, keep selling as this peaks and then goes down.

Why is a reuters report being censored?

I don't know where this censorship is going to lead America. Things are going crazy.

Sell the minute you get your December RSUs. I know it is going to be a long time to wait for the shares to show up in your account, but just check and do it as soon as they hit your account.

why is the stock up so much based on a 2027 revenue forecast if they missed the current quarter forcast?

https://www.reuters.com/technology/broadcom-forecasts-first-quarter-revenue-above-estimates-2024-12-12/

The company reported fourth-quarter revenue of $14.05 billion, a jump of over 50% from a year earlier. Analysts had expected $14.09 billion.
On an adjusted basis, Broadcom earned $1.42 per share compared with estimates of $1.38 per share.

So much anger.

Correct the homework assignment financial geniuses and then you will still see that the folks who stayed have reaped huge financial gains and the timing of Dec 15th vest couldn’t be better.

Use your aggressive feelings, boys. Let the hate flow through you!

Seems like some folks think this is a substack where people are paying to hear their financial advice words of wisdom and doom and gloom. It’s a layoff site. Maybe find another corner of the Internet for your conspiracy theory drivel.

I’ll be on the beach with my pina colada.

Firstly OP, you're a fu--ing id--t.

If you had 100 VMware shares (which were trading at circa $125 at the end of May 2022) you either had them purchased from you at $142.50 p/s or exchanged for 0.252 of a BC share - so you had 25.2 BC shares.

After the share split you had 252 BC shares, as of yesterday that was about $56k, still a good return but not $200k+

I'll let that sink in (but suggest you cancel your Aston Martin order and get an adult to check your homework).

After the acquisition, due to a 10-to-1 stock split, your now had 1,000 shares of Broadcom.

100 shares of VMware did not translate to 100 in AVGO. You moroaaaan. I see you trying too hard for your peanuts. How many shares do you have? You with your chicken brain are only meant to su-k on di-k and rub the come all over for your entire life. Low life. Sc-m. I know you are a janitor at Symantec.

Stop with the threads.

I spent a major chunk of my life at VMware and bolted before the acquisition was complete. I absolutely love hearing from friends who are IC's with 7-digit equity packages and root for their continued survival. A truly unique opportunity to rest and vest at an incredible scale.

Just keep your skills current, please.
