Got laid off yesterday. A few others were laid off last month. I am at a smaller site so I won’t say more.

I am sad and scared to face the current job market given the new great depression energy emerging.

@26d Well when you look at the # of non-US VP's and SVP's shouldn't be shocked. When SVP of MFG, SVP of IT, and VP of Facil are all from India. Of course they want to support their people.

Maybe if they would have kept DSEG they would have had some cushion. I got laid off back around 2002. Best thing that ever happened to me.

@fq I see the weekly hiring list for the US TI employees and I believe 90-95 % are foreign hires with the majority being Indian or Asian.

@1c0 Quality has been eviscerated by a succession of VPs and they were likely directed to from above in the name of cost savings.

@10q keep in mind that Texas is a right to work state. That didn’t stop recent unionization efforts at auto companies’ plants in Texas, though.

@16e does this apply specifically to LOR for new jobs? Or does it also apply to LOR for educational/other opportunities?

@f4
TI Quality! I wonder how many employees actually use/follow the QSS. I worked for 40 yrs and the last 15. I would have to decline RTMs. No eRTP 1,2 3. Test programs in engineering status? ATSS wrong flows? Wrong
MSLs. I felt lost, I could not get Top mgt to understand, if they override my decision, the impact on not just revenue but the quality of the device . I was not heard they released just to get an RTM count . Then the PLM expects me to help the eng rewrite the ATSS. I was fortunate. my director in operations said no. The days of “Quality being top priority was lost when Jerry Junkins passed away.

@gv I’m a reporter out of San Antonio, and I cover big business layoffs and changes like this. Any chance you’re still in contact with any of the folks impacted who might be willing to speak with me, even anonymously?

I also heard the termination packet might references the number of people and roles impacted. Maybe they’d be willing to share that anonymously?

My email is zachary.wright@mysa.com in case.

@yx I left TI on my own a few months back (to everyone still at TI, Yes, there's definitely greener pastures elsewhere). It's written in HR policy that TI-ers cannot write recommendations for former employees. In return, TI will also no disclose your status upon leaving - i.e. whether you were in good standing, on a PIP, left of your own accord, were fired, etc. TI will only confirm your dates of employment with the company. If I remember correctly, it's one of the offboarding tasks on the checklist to sign/verify that you understand this. When I was an intern supervisor, I was also told that I could not write recommendation letters for my former interns so it's definitely a general HR policy.

@eg TI is a technology company. It’s common practice to shrink and expand the workforce. And, the tariffs are actually a competitive advantage for TI due to manufacturing.

Anybody knows if there is any effort to unionize?
I've heard they tried many years ago but the management was strongly against it.

@wg lol. I wasn't told that and offered to do it. That's bad if they actually told people that. No way they can find out or enforce that.

@d5 Total of 5 laid off in LDOs, after one left today. They were on vacation and got laid off the day they returned to the office.

Mood is really sad in the office now. Haviv is ki-ling the spirit of this company.

After the layoff a year ago, HR said employees were not allowed to write rec letters for those laid off. For those of you still there, please help those who are now looking for jobs. I do not think it is right for TI to tell you that you cannot help former employees.

this India connection is becoming too common.. SFAB equipment sold to a "buyer" in India and yes SFAB employees were told the end of operations is March 24th 2026, included in that news, is for all Technicians and Pit Crew who signed an advanced job offer to SM1 is no longer being honored after handcuffing them to not trying to find jobs out side of a closing SFAB ,to in loyalty help the company keep the equipment alive during the lifetime build strategies to keep customers happy and then just say " sorry there wont be a job afterall " but here is a meager handout with a furlough(unpaid) option or 1 week per year of service plus an additional 8 weeks... bye,see ya

@en in Freising yes, but people weren‘t laid off directly- that is not possible under German Labor Law. Instead people were offered to mutually end the work contract and receive some form of severance for it. So technically no one was fired yet.

Layoffs And H-1Bs: Texas Instruments’ Billion-Dollar Balancing Act

Layoffs And H-1Bs: Texas Instruments’ Billion-Dollar Balancing Act

Texas Instruments is facing scrutiny for continuing its reliance on H-1B visa workers while simultaneously laying off employees and benefiting from billions in federal subsidies.

The DFW-based semiconductor manufacturer has had 937 H-1B beneficiaries approved since 2020, according to data from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. Seventy-one beneficiaries were approved in the first six months of this year, the latest update reveals. The visas enabled U.S. companies to employ foreign workers in specialty occupations, most commonly in fields such as computer science and engineering.

The approvals came during a period of turmoil in the domestic technology sector.

Texas has seen thousands of tech layoffs in recent years, while youth unemployment nationally reached 10.5% in August, according to the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. A recent report from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York put unemployment among computer engineers at 7.5% and underemployment at 17%. For computer science graduates, the unemployment rate was reportedly 6.1%, with underemployment at 16.5%.

The practice also comes as the company undergoes restructuring.

Three months after Texas Instruments secured up to $1.61 billion in federal CHIPS Act funding to expand its U.S. manufacturing footprint, it laid off workers at its Lehi, Utah, facility, according to the Salt Lake Tribune. The company declined to provide numbers but reportedly told the Tribune it was “well less than 33% of the workforce.”

The contrast between hiring foreign workers and reducing U.S. staff has fueled a broader political debate.

@df I was in the VRS Santa Clara team until i left about a year go. I swear i felt like TI wasn't going anywhere good. I am absolutely shocked to hear my friends have been laid off even though VRS is a profitable team. Moving it to India means shittier qual and worse ICs. The Bangalore team will be the decline of TI quality.
