You don't have to apply through Texas unemployment's website. You can apply through linkedin, a company's website, or a head hunter. All you need to do is record the fact that you applied, to what company, and when. Every two weeks call the number and say you want the money. Don't make it too complicated. Get your $519 per week!

I applied. No issue. Didn’t even do the job searches and applications because the Texas website for that didn’t work for me. Annoying to have to request the money regularly. Then I had a job fall in my lap and I got back to work.

@rj

Good point about waiting for the severance payment. you get 6 months of unemployment during the 12 months following your employment. But you have to stop when you get a job.

@sj, thank you, now I understand the bittersweet, although my carreer is much better after Shell now. It is the fact that useless india leaders decided my fate.

The thing is that life after Shell is great. But it is hard being the side that is rejected and left unemployed. It is like being a high 6 or 7 rejected by a solid 4 out of the blue. It kind stings but it stings a little more being rejected by leadership who are sub-mid to lower mid. It hurts a little more knowing and feeling that an inferior being made the decision rather than you making it on your own timeline.

make sure you file after getting your lump sum. Shell sorry ar-e will not contest. even though it looks bad on them for laying off so many people. Make sure you also stick it to them by signing up for outplacement....even if you don't need it. Again Shell is a poorly run company. 30 years ago. they were number 1. Today they are way behind #1, #2. Like the saying goes " it is not much if it is Dutch." lazy Europeans cannot do jack sht

You can apply and probably get it unless you receive pension as a retiree.

I took unemployment after accepting the severance.

1st apply to Texas unemployment.

2nd prove your identity to the Texas unemployment

3rd apply to 3 jobs per week if you're in Fort Bend County (it is 5 jobs per week if you are in Harris county) Keep a record of your applications, they may randomly ask you to prove you have been applying.

4th every 2 weeks apply to receive your unemployment

5th unemployment lasts 6 months or 180 days.

In 2024, they paid out a max of 519 per week for 26 weeks or 1/3 of your pay if that is less than 519
