When I graduated school in early 90's, Intel was the place to be. They came in and recruited the majority of my class (I had other plans). I had spoken with several of my classmates later in the decade and they were really enjoying the ride - great opportunities / tech / work environment.
I joined in 2017, and while it wasn't near the same company, it was still pretty good. We had id--ts in charge, but it seemed like they couldn't do much damage, but boy, was I wrong on that. Then Covid hit and things went great - we couldn't produce fast enough.
By the time Covid went away, the cracks had grown and were becoming seen. Mgt was good enough to fill them in and tell us all is well, but all that did was delay the holes opening up.
And we are now here - on the precipice of the company being split up. Intel will never be the same. We just cannot charge enough of a premium to complete with low cost geo's - our products are just not good enough.
We were saying about a year back that foundry would need to be spun off - seems like that is not enough now. While they can keep development in the states, once ready, I would expect all mfg to be moved overseas. But, keeping development here is still a bit of the cr-p shoot.
We will miss you, Intel of old. 😢
