Thread regarding Edward Jones layoffs

ISP Job Search

Curious….has anyone who received an ISP found a job yet? This market is brutal and I feel like I’ve been blacklisted. Since early September I’ve only had one real interview and three “networking” calls. I actually had a recruiter say ‘they (Edward Jones) doesn’t do product development like everyone else’. I’m beginning to freak out with November 14th being next week.

@a1 Did you just call me fat? That tracks. Very professional and polished.

@rh How many Edward Jones clients reside in India? Because, that is where Penny is sending American jobs.

@rh I’ve never posted anything on here but this caught my attention. I would be careful making accusations like that. Know your audience. I know many people who were let go and continue to receive calls from their previous colleagues on their expertise. I’m pretty sure you didn’t know every associates work ethic and the value they added. Comments like that are hurtful and uncalled for.

@rh Tell us you don’t work at EJ without telling us you don’t work at EJ.

The people being cut have had easy positions for years who have not added any value to the firm. The people who have been retained were retained because they added value to the firm and they may continue to bring value to the firm in the future. There is no guarantee people who remain after Cascade 1 will remain indefinitely. There are still many people at the firm who are draining firm resources. If an associate cannot bring a factor of 1.58 to the firm they will be subject to evaluation. Just because an associate is an American does not give them the right to a position at this firm. This is a global firm with clients in different countries. We are serving our international clients better by having a diverse workforce in different countries.

@ed “integral” is a funny word. People that got roles in my area were chosen not because of their ability but because they kissed up to mommy and daddy. They haven’t done the work and they won’t be able to do it. But performance has never been the standard. How much they kiss the ring is how they are evaluated.

@gf Trust me, you are not telling the truth. We have cut the fat and the unhealthy components of the firm will no longer be with us. We know what we are doing. The firm has given people cushy positions for way too long. The time of reckoning is now. If you are left and unhappy actually doing meaningful work for leaders in place who finally know what they are doing then you can leave. We have been entrusted to save this bloated firm and will do so. The labor costs versus rate of return were outrageous. Too many little people involved in processes that make them feel like they really matter.

@ed you may be okay for a couple of months until things really start to fall apart.

Any one who received an ISP and is asked to come back, as a reminder you have to pay back your severance. Do not do that. Instead I would like to highlight that going rate for contractors and consultants at $125-$500 an hour. If they could pay consultants to figure out your job they would do that, instead of crawling back to you. So instead of paying back severance make them pay you consultant rates because you are now the one with the leverage.

@ed that’s literally the biggest load of cr-p and absolutely unhelpful-not to mention untrue. If you mean by “integral” that the job they did is “believed” to be able to be done with less money by people overseas, then maybe? But, even in my case, after almost 20 years with the firm, my position was eliminated and all of my work given to my leader because they were too leader-padded. I was ISP’d and then sought by the director in another area and stated my new role, within the firm, at two pay grades higher than I was. So go on with your ignorant banter elsewhere.

@OP If you were integral to the firm you would have not received an ISP. The decision was made you were not needed. The chances of us needing you in the future is slim. It is a privilege to work at the firm, not a right. My advice would be to look elsewhere.

November is usually not the best time for job searching. In addition the market uncertainty and layoffs add to the challenge. Things usually will pick back up after the holidays.

Wasn't part of isp but I am looking to leave. During my tenure thus far, I was part of several reorgs. Each time my job role shifted further and further away from what I was hired and what I spent years of my life training to do.

At first it seemed fine. I was learning new areas and new software. Development. Years later it feels like I let my og skill set tarnish. What I "developed" is fine for a jack of all trades but stand me up against a professional and im toast.

It takes a lot more legwork to sell myself imo to non jones people

Dozens of applications internal and external, not a single interview.

@OP I found a job outside of Edward Jones. Penny essentially gave me a 2 1/2 month paid vacation. I am taking my severance from Jones and investing it elsewhere and getting a 30% pay increase at my new employer. I was way underpaid at Jones. Penny's money hungry greed has been an unbelievable blessing for me and my family. Keep looking and keep up the faith. I know it is scary and a major inconvenience, but it will work out.
