Thread regarding Adidas layoffs

Stopped all promotions

Anyone who has worked hard and contributed to the stellar results will not get rewarded now as adidas prepares for the layoffs. Younger ambitious people are being forced out.

It’s easy to say find jobs, but it’s not the reality for most people and I am not trying to victimize employees. It’s plain sad truth that we are still promoting incompetent predators who have zero empathy and leadership while people who are really doing the jobs are being cast aside. One location is cutting jobs and other locations are throwing welcome to office parties and then also posting it online. Where is the one company mindset?

You who’ve secured roles quickly are the lucky ones. The people I know in the U.S. are taking a year + to land a job and many are having to take 1-2 steps down and massive pay cuts to do so

The status of getting hired depends on the area of knowledge, country and moment you look for a job.

What is a shame is not that you can get promoted now or not. It's knowing that you lose the ability to progress in your professional career, even if they previously said you can have a brilliant future. With that foundation, you need to reconsider if the company worths to stay at.

@xp+1jjz00a4c I started applying for new jobs, it took me 5 months to find a new job & finalize the process. I got a new job with pay raise.

: @tk+1jjz00a4c it’s not just a matter of “if you’re talented you’ll find another job”. Some of the most talented people I know have been looking for 16+ months, unable to find work. Have you tried to find a job in this market and been successful?

@rg+1jjz00a4c what is it that you don't understand? you are a number, no one cares about your sacrifices or your whining: no company is obliged to guarantee you a job, it's capitalism baby. if you are talented you will easily find another job, maybe taking the opportunity to learn something new. fix your CV, take some online courses, get the severance package and go. the world outside adidas is not as black as you describe it.

@p2+1jjz00a4c what else are you going to say, you can start by not eating or having kids just in case? Come on and be serious. While it’s a ridiculous time to whine for promotions when people are loosing their livelihood, it’s not realistic to expect people to bow down and say thank you for being kicked to the curb after decades of helping to build this brand.

I know people who’ve been looking for jobs for 18 months and were laid off in this industry, many of whom are willing to move and change current but just not possible to find work given the current climate.

Point is this “I deserve a promotion post because I’m so great and if not you’re forcing me to leave” is completely tone deaf and the lack of Maturity and EQ likely has more to do with not getting a promotion than the state of the company anyways

@n5+1jjz00a4c you can start by not taking mortgage. You put yourself in debt, lose your financial freedom and then complain about the circumstances. You cannot lose your job because you are not able to manage your finances. Learn personal finance first. Nobody or no company promises you life time employment, and they don't have to.

Try having a mortgage, kids, a family, parents to take care of and losing your job in this economy. Stop complaining about not getting a promotion. Appreciate your situation and hope it lasts until promotions are back on the table. Want to earn more, want a bigger title, go try your luck out there, see how that goes and report back to us.

@gz+1jjz00a4c This poor is me victim mindset is so outlandish. Highly doubt they are going down to the person by person level. Usually when this happens it’s with faceless / nameless org charts done by consultants to keep it neutral.

It is not about layoffs. It all about you is getting laid off. Hardworking, no-nonsense people are getting the boot while pets are getting retained.

Besides Adi, there were so many Layoffs this year at Nike, Estée Lauder, Reebok, saucony, Avery Dennison, Patagonia, Le Cog Sportif, Vans, Columbia, Levi’s, REI, Under Armor, Macys…..

Not to mention, Intel, dell, Cisco, Tesla, Amazon, meta, stripe, Shopify, SAP, Xerox, Exxon, Boeing, cargill, Wells Fargo, Starbucks, Deloitte, PWC, EY.. all also had layoffs in the last 12 months.

Adidas, who was literally in the red, held off laying people off, finally gets in the green, but can no longer sell Yeezys so has to be smart and needs to trim fat to optimize moving forward and you are demanding incentives?

I can tell you most of the people laid off at those companies were top talent and cut because they were high earners, they would also be thrilled to take your job.

Be thankful, buckle up and learn how to read the room. This economy isn’t for the faint of heart and promotions go to those who understand timing and EQ.
