Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

Offshoring

Hopefully Citi (and other western corporations) will finally realize that hiring 10 low-qualified people to do the job of 2-3 highly-skilled people in EMEA/NA is not the way forward. With salaries growing in India/China/etc. this finally become a non-viable strategy... If Jane has some sense, she will cut deeply into India and China - after all, it was the Mumbai office that f*cked up the 900mln Revlon transfer.

Post ID: @rfh+1qz7vIzY : I agree, there are good ones. But the average is below the average US/UK/etc. employee, that is just a fact. And now with higher salaries, the whole premise of outsourcing to India is gone. And btw, if we have to be honest, even now it makes more sense to outsource to destinations like Estonia/Bulgaria/etc. where labour is more expensive, but the quality of the people is pretty close to what you have in EMEA/US.

There are some very good employees from India, subject matter experts and hard workers. With others, you get what you pay for. It's the cut price option and the quality matches the price.
However there is a tendency for Indian leaders in NA and EMEA to favor their own compatriots, more than is fair.
This is not a good way to operate and it creates a lot of resentment.

It’s not really about labor productivity when you are a zombie company like Citi. It’s about maintaining the appearance of a going concern long enough to strip any valuable assets out the back door before declaring chapter 11

Post ID: @njr+1qz7vIzY : That is what I am saying - it is not cheap anymore. You usually need 2-3x the number of employees in India to do the same thing and nowadays salaries in Mumbai are close to 1/2 or 1/3 to the salaries in EMEA/US, so we have reached parity... No need to hire more in India - problem solved.

China? We are closer to start a war with China than hiring more people there… I would stop blaming India for all. They do what they are paid off. You want cheap, you have cheap.
