Thread regarding USAA layoffs

CEO Town Hall last week in Phx Unprofessional

Not sure if anyone else was there or saw the recording but I was actually floored when Wayne pretty much made fun of remote workers saying they learned in the attack or basement. The attitude about workers in general was a joke and all I got out of it was now they are saying how much they don’t give a sh-t out loud. It is not funny to reject a valid question about remote productivity statistics. It is not funny to make fun of hard working employees that are already worried about their livelihoods. It is not funny that he did not deliver on a promise to give an update on remote work after two weeks. I am disgusted. I am now considering my path forward as it has solidified my belief that they are morally bankrupt and not the company I joined. Granted I will wait and see if they lay me off but I have no desire to stay long term. Left a company of 10 years for this bullsh-t. Guess we all make mistakes.

Yes, he was around when Phoenix was built. He was also the driving force behind the offshoring and layoff of IT functions in 2001. And he was the driver behind outsourcing half the bank and the current efforts in P&C. Under his watch there is no more Realco, IMCO, and Wealth Management. That’s the guy, yes.

To all those saying that they are considering leaving USAA over this... that's the entire point. It's not about the culture, it's not about the members, it's about forcing attrition, micromanagement, and justifying the expense of keeping up with the buildings.

It should come as no surprise that no one at the top cares. No one is irreplaceable. Even if every employee decided cancel all of their policies and banking products, that's 36,000 people out of 12,000,000. It's negligible.

Employers have the upper hand again in the job market and they are going to continue flexing that muscle by making unpopular decisions. The job market isn't great right now and they know it. Employees have fewer options now and they know it. A ton of corporations are mandating RTO, so this is not a problem unique to USAA, but the totally transparent disregard for employees lives and morale is utterly disgusting.

People really care about staying remote. Like a lot. You see companies like Amazon requiring RTO for all of their employees and I feel like I would fear for my safety if I was a CEO making that decision. Many people care about it that much. So many people have improved their mental health and work/life balance by remote work, so it's disheartening to see these changes coming down the pipe. I happen to be in a demographic that it won't impact too much since I don't have kids and live close to a regional office, but I can't imagine the toll it would take on me if I was a single parent, had elderly parents to care for, or lived far away.

We're in for a rough ride, and it doesn't appear to ending any time soon.

The additional guidance was released on Friday to EMG. It is being distributed to managers tomorrow and everyone else May 1. Although when managers get it I'm sure they will start sharing with their teams quickly.

I just rewatched this morning. The thing that stuck out to me the most was him saying Phoenix is the best office location & he would know because he built it.

He also said the email with additional guidance would be out by 10am Friday, I haven’t received anything.
