Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Post-IDP Clarity

Does anyone actually care about people with POT 34? What does this even mean? Feels like it’s a bait to keep the slave treadmill going. My sup. Just gave me few generic next assignments and said it will eventually depend on availability and performance. Then what are YOU doing for me?In the last 5 yrs I have one E, 3O and one OWD. How much more do I need to perform! Am I f*** and should I leave immediately?

The way things worked in the past is not how they work now and will only get worse. Executive roles will reduce in number and be filled by outside candidates. They do not value internal experience. You should job hop to build a solid career.

@r0 likely over the next 5 years if in early 30s.. keep getting outstanding across various roles, you have a shot.

Many follow that pursuit at the cost of their health and family. Your call, but there is a cemetery with many future VPs.

If you are early 30’s and a 34POT when does the assessment take place to move you to a 38-40? Or would that have happened in your 20’s?

POT 34 do not receive executive coaching do not have a sponsor are not true hipo. Most will be lucky to crack CL27

You cannot be assigned a pot 38+ until you achieve a certain career level for further assessment. So if you are early career CL34 you are doing fine.

POT 34 is exec manager reporting to a VP. Its not as great as POT 38 or 40 which is true hiPo.

What it means - if you continue to do well, multiple more outstanding you could get more competitive assignments like planning, management, other BUs etc.

Most well performing POT 34 can reach CL 29 overall. Very very few will actually make it to an exec. Note many POT 38s will burn out and drop to a POT 34 and compete with you.

CL 29 is not a bad place to retire, but it is not exec. If you are ambitious, i would look somewhere else.

Think Meg O' Neil, could she have made it to the MC here. Probably not, sometimes changing jobs is the best way to move forward.

It’s true - any idea of the number of POT 34’s currently? My quick guess is that it’s ~10x the number of CL 34 roles that currently exist.

The implication is that even if you are a POT 34 you have a 10% chance of actually achieving it.

Anyone have actual numbers?
