Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

SUPPOSEDLY they are logging in office time now

Supposedly, they are logging in office time via your computer connected to the network. VPN or not, your sourece IP address while in office will always be a 10.x.x.x. VPN IP will be different.

They are looking for at minimum 1 hour in office - which I assume is to prevent "coffee badging."

I don't know this 100% for sure but this is what Ive heard lately so, for those of you RTO id spend at least an hour in office...

@sr Badging in IS compliance. That's all they care about. No reason to stay in a depressing office to do the exact same work I could do better at home. Why do you choose to be miserable, no one in giving you a medal for being in office? Got +5% raise and RSU's because I'm good at my actual job NOT because I can sit in daycare.

Idk why my previous post got removed. Mods be tripping.

@sg

100% support the idea of replacing all noncompliant workers like you with new grads entering the industry.

Bragging, overpaid but yet lazy and awful - just the type that needs replacing.

You don't wanna go to work? You don't wanna do what is asked of you? Good. Let's find better.

@qx lol what?? Who said I was defaulting on my mortgage? I'm on track to retire by 40 if I wanted.

It really isn't that complicated, the office is depressing and full of blowhards like you. My home is quiet, has a clean bathroom, and a couch to nap on after I get off calls or long coding sessions. So yeah, Im going to coffee badge and get back to my favorite place on earth, my home.

How tf do people not get that simple equation, the office is a net drag on productivity

@c6

8 hrs is a full day.
40 hrs is a regular work week.
Anything less and you are part-time

@ef oh no some other companies care about rto. Dell only cares about the metric and that metric is 1 badge in per day.

I repeat, unless your skip level is an a--hole, it doesn't matter. Managers can no longer see if you've badged in unless they are a vp or higher because of ODW. Quit the fearmongering and coffee badge so you can work in peace.

Also, no fu--ing way some other job would give a rats a-s if you coffee badged, and if they do, they're probably ratfu-kers too.

@OP This isa new thing, office networrk usage has been tracked for rhe past 10 months that I know if. However very few people have any clue as to how to retrieve this data, just like the majority of data Dell collects. You'd have to have a manager or someone above them that actually cares and is competent enough to generate and interpret the reports for this to affect you.

@OP quit fearmongering di-k. Everyone on my team coffee badges. Management doesnt give fu-k unless your skips boss is an a--hole who hates their family life.

@c7 There being thousands of flaws in measuring something and in how the results are interpreted has never stopped Dell before. It's almost SOP.

@OP Stupid post. Everybody knows RTO was a bluff to get people to quit. It was all a bluff. Dell knows employees know it was a bluff. There are literally thousands of people still working RTO who have never been back to an office. Dell doesn't do anything to them. Total bluff!

Most of my days are in person collaboration and I leave my laptop at home often. How do they reconcile a badge swipe with a system that isn't accompanying it? There are thousands of flaws with the idea of tracking that they would have to set up a massive exception resolution queue for since they also say there are dozens of reasons that allow for wfh.

I don't think a rumor of 1 hour in the office is accurate. They'd at least want a full day.
