Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Strategy wise: hybrid makes no sense

unless you are on the cusps of a lucrative promotion.

If not remote is the best play since that can be switched to hybrid for a promotion.

Don't think you're safe with either. Dell will renege on everything and anything so I would distance myself as soon as possible from dell

@xbo+1qWoOpNR, not that I know of yet. But it will be clearer once RTO will be enforced which should be by start of Q2.

Correction to the post below. The policy states that everyone will be converted to hybrid and have a one time option to opt in as remote. If you select to stay as hybrid after the March date, you can no longer opt in for remote. Remote people will need to change to hybrid to get promoted/switch roles etc. After which, they cannot change back to remote.

Offices that Dell is leasing are not included in the RTO to count against the 39 days/Q. This is crazy.

I was told by my leadership that once you choose "remote" or "hybrid" you are stuck with that option. I have them looking into this because it doesn't seem right but they seem to be under the assumption that you cannot change between them unless you have a major life change. I semi understand this because their would be people who changed to promote and then went back to remote, but still. They will be track badge in's to the office via workday so it seems very micromanaged into order to force people to WFR.

That's another issue that shows how they either planned this poorly, or have ulterior motives.

  1. They haven't provided a list of offices that are eligible for hybrid work. They took down the list that was up prior to Monday. If you go to the facilities webpage for corporate sites, it states many of those (but don't mention which) are not intended for hybrid work. When people asked for the list of hybrid offices, the canned response was that it would be released in March when we are supposed to make our decision. That list should have been ready to go when they made the announcement. Considering many are faced with the decision of moving, why would they wait until decision time to notify these people of what offices are even eligible? When asked this, that HR/Comms person went silent.
  1. They've stated that offices likely don't have enough workstations to support the influx of newly hybrid workers. "Just find a place to work in the common areas" Are they insane? Do they expect us to sit on the floor, on a toilet, bunched together all taking zoom calls with our actual colleagues who work in other offices? And they expect this to not impact our productivity?

Everything about this screams they are being disingenuous and/or incompetent.

39 days per quarter is 3 days per week. 2 days per week when your nearest office is 4 hours away is no better. This is simply an effort to shed employees without having to pay severance packages, and a multi-year effort to drive technical teams back into the cities.

maybe it will change to 2 days a week in Round Rock, pretty sure the rest of the post covid offices/meeting spaces will be extremely overwhelmed when everyone comes in and either they will need to find more office space or change the policy.

I've heard HR took a big hit in this last wfr - may take a while to get in touch with anyone to voice your concerns to

Tell Dell is going to be incredibly interesting I think... Wouldn't surprise me if after it comes out, policies change a bit. My bet is that remote workers will be able to be promoted and the 39 days/quarter will be reduced to 2 days/week. Just a guess

Wondering if those that wish to be remote and do not agree on the policy, has anyone opened cases with HR to voice concerns? Because you should voice opinion on this. Zero changes with complacency.
