If a job at Q, one of the 1000's of tech companies means so much, I'd suggest: get a life!
A tools engineer was laid off and he jumped from a WT balcony that evening. He wa s distraught because he thought he would be shaming his family. QC stepped in and got him home to his family, and took care of everything for his wife and child. EAP reps were on campus for days afterward.
Then there was a systems engineer who took his life because he getting a divorce and had been laid off. Granted, su----e is a very selfish thing to do. This person felt he had nothing, and even though people were reaching out to him, he had made his decision.
If you have been impacted and are feeling hopeless, please reach out to Qualcomm’s EAP. Your life is not over. You have done nothing to be shamed about. QC laid off expensive people and positions somewhere, someone said we’re redundant. Be practical, think about how your thoughts are running, and in what direction. You are talented, you are intelligent, and your feelings are hurt because QC let you down. The world will not be better without you. Your family will be devastated. Your friends will blame themselves. Reach out for help.
@qir if true it was a sad event. But still an anecdote. Also fired is different from layoff. If fired, the person would have been put on pip (already rare event in Q unlike in faangs) for at least 6 months. Thats a very advanced warning and hint to look elsewhere. Likely an issue other than firing resulted in taking the ultimate step. There are companies that lay off and fire more frequently than Q.
The one that jumped in 2009 was fired. It was a tragic experience as I was working out early at Q the day he jumped. He had a wife and little child that he left behind…. Directly related to loosing one’s job!
OP, google had 3 since July 2022. And QC ones werent related to layoffs. What's your point?
