After a truly disappointing department meeting, I made the decision to start looking for a new job. It’s a shame because I love what I do. Constant change, roll-backs, and procedure revamping. It’s all become too much and soul su-king. I’m tired of constraints that treat my role as less than. What once was position where I was a subject matter expert, is now transformed into an “order taker”. Gone are the days of relationship building and professional skill set acknowledgement. Fill the job and on to the next— oh, and by the way, this is the new normal— you either adapt or “oh well, maybe this isn’t a good fit anymore “. Says a lot about leadership when they value changing processes constantly more than skilled, high performing professionals. Sad.

If you are in tech in the US, its time to leave. There are many other places to go where you can be happy, grow, and do some great work. In the next couple years, as the TikTok-outsourcing strategy unfolds it will tip over and fail. We all know it, so don't worry about it and move on.
Because, let's be honest, there won't be raises or bonuses in the coming year...everyone can feel that. As I sat in extended Staff with Optum at Home and Optum Care leadership, the message was clear: "this is going to be a very difficult year, please keep focused, we need all your help." (I wrote that down in the last session)
In 3-5 years, Optum will need to recover and will begin hiring once again. It may become a good place to work then.
There are FAR too many people at this company willing to do whatever their manager tells them to do without question, regardless of whether it fits into the job description or not… and/or how that impacts their peers. It’s not. Russian Gulag, you’re not under duress. It’s just a mindset I’ve never understood. It puts added stress, pressure, and anxiety on everyone else around them becuase now they all need to meet that raised bar and every time someone say yes to work outside the scope, the overall bar gets raise more and more. It’s not “doing the bare minimum”. It’s called excelling at your job. Try it sometime.
You do you, my friend! I too love what I do, to an extent I also like my team and my leadership but starting to feel like nothing I do is good enough. I've poured my heart and soul into the team and Company and I've been punished for not being a shmoozing brown-noser. I work hard, I do good work and my review and surveys prove this, but that's not good enough anymore and I think that's where the OP was going. Now, there's so much excess you have to do, there's not enough time to do it and you're forced to choose between your personal time and a bonus/raise. Meanwhile, management's besties are rewarded for being friends. That's not how it's supposed to work.
@qam+1rQK7DW4 - You have given up on life?
I read your message and honestly, I'm a bit shocked. You seem totally okay with just floating along and not aiming for anything more. It's like you're cool with being stuck in a rut and playing the victim.
Listen, I get it, life can be tough, but sitting back and doing the bare minimum isn't going to change anything. You've been doing the same old thing for 15 years? Come on, you're better than that.
And saying your job title doesn't define you? Sure, but it's important to have some ambition and try to do better, right? Being happy with just getting by isn't going to get you anywhere.
Look, I'm not trying to be harsh, but it's time to shake things up. Start aiming higher and taking charge of your life. Trust me, you'll thank yourself later.
Pull yourself together.
nothing new constant rearranging been going on for 15+ years. if there is a check for being an order taker with a fancy title ok by me. My worth is not my job title. Do the minimum
Target and and her goons continue to valid, while simultaneously st-----g, each other's egos.
Goodluck on this, I applied for 45 internal roles with account management in 2023/2024 and was only offered 1 job. And that 1 job was doing something I found out was a worse nightmare than what I was already in, so I tell you to go for it and godbless on this journey.
Taking charge of your life instead of just letting things happen to you is a breath of fresh air that I am certain you will experience. It feels amazing because we're no longer passive bystanders – we're in control. We're not content to sit back and just let things happen to us.
Staying focused is key. Don't be swayed to stay by false promises of bonuses, promotions, or fancy job titles that are really just tricks to get us to work harder for less pay. Many of us stick with our current jobs, hoping things will get better or that we'll get a good severance package. It can be scary to take a leap of faith, but our mental well-being, self-respect, and dignity are worth more than holding to a dead-end job career.
Do close this chapter - mark it as learning experience, and move on to where you are truly seen, can grow and genuinely valued.
I'm not far behind you my friend!
