Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Why Layoffs.com Became the Only Transparent Source?

Platforms like Indeed and Glassdoor no longer allow truly anonymous comments—corporate agreements behind the scenes have made open discussion nearly impossible. At this point, Layoffs.com is one of the few places where employees can honestly share what’s happening inside the company, especially since leadership keeps us in the dark as much as they can.

You see, the “smartest” idea that EM management had was centrally locating people. Now at lunch, people compare salaries, talk through PDS results which was not possible when EM was at 23 buildings in Houston. Ironic how mgmt didn’t see the error until it was too late… now we all know and information is public. I’ve heard that a union is becoming to firm on Campus so the greater the attendance, the better the participation!
DW can use policies like the new HR one to scare many away but those that are vested will fight until the end. Based on the cuts he’s made, he’s only 1 disaster away from tainting his legacy… Exxon-Valdez will become Exxon-Woods!

@qa DO NOT TRUST ANYONE IN EM. This is the best advice ever

You speak to HR and you're doomed. Same thing happens when you speak to ANYONE in the company. Nobody can be trusted internally. Retaliation is real.

@nw I’m seeing others post that retirement eligibility is now being offered to people in their early 50s.
If that’s true, does the removal of NRE open the door for earlier retirement the say at 52, 53, 54 or is it just straight termination.

@mw You can add the removal of NRE status to that list. It’s gone. You’ll see soon.

@OP There used to be an internal outlets called Yammer. Employees helped each other navigate broken HR systems, automated processes and day-to-day realities no one officially acknowledged. It functioned as a workaround and a people-powered knowledge base.
Management didn’t like that.
Too many people comparing notes and realizing they weren’t alone.
Supervisors like it when they are the only sunshine in their subordinates life. Independent conversations disrupt that model so the got rid of it.
After that, some groups moved to Facebook, but not everyone wanted their personal life mixed with Exxon. So others landed on Layoffs.com. It's one of the more toxic places and there are alot of mean voices due to dealing with the same dysfunctional systems just now with no filter.
It’s also one of the few places where information moves freely. Employees compare notes, share warnings, and figure out how to navigate processes that don’t come with instructions like alight and benefit hotlines.
In other cases, it’s where people learn what’s happening before leadership communicates it. The layoffs in 2021 and the 401(k) match removal for example..you heard it here first.
That’s the tension. Management prefers controlled messaging and divide and conquer tactics. This is not the ideal or perfect site, but it's all we have left.

Even it is not a 100% true about this place, at least you can say many things about EM without be backstabed or snitched by another coworker.

Simple, "Knowledge is Power" to an employee that understands the system. If our corporation was transparent about "corporate politics", management would be less likely to get away with the political games that are being played every day.

If I was a senior leader at the company I would begin to ask myself why my workforce is compelled to come to a site like this in the first place? Why do employees need to go to an outside source to understand such fundamental processes such as performance assessment, company structure and policies. Why can't employees get everything they need to know from the company firsthand?

We took this candidate out for dinner a few weeks ago. He started asking about the company culture. He said based on his search (the reviews on Indeed and Glassdoor) seem like a ‘culture for success.’”

@OP There’s no such thing as 100% anonymity on the internet.

But yeah, agree, Indeed and Glassdoor have been trash for some time now. Tons of BS 5-star company reviews on both sites.
