Catch 22 it's what happens when u reward fast sweet talkers, they become

so embedded in the culture that there is no room to do out if the box stuff.

Now Donovan, Stephenson et al are standing around sratching their heads why t can't innovate. You've got resistors who've ensured you won't by pushing creative people down and out. Ur loss....

Can't wait for the documentary or some other expose to come out...to illustrate why t wasn't able to evolve past the dumb pipe.

re: Post ID: @HBd8BIZ-fkf no guts, no glory, but your 2nd / 3rd / 4th level "leaders" will not back you up if you make waves to improve and innovate outside the canonical channels. Then you get knocked for not doing so. A huge problem is that the low-level hierarchy are so paranoid and they view high-potential performing subordinates as threats instead of pushing to get them what they deserve.

I think the point to this post is that there is no balance AT&T values telling a manager/leader what she wants to hear above all else. It might especially keep you safe in a surplus. And no that's not what every company over 100 people are about. There are some cultures who value opposing views and different perspectives. It actually helps to create great things. Status quo may not rock the boat today....but it's actually dangerous to a company's well being especially a so called tech company which t claims to be now.

conventinal wisdom and even my last director said verbatim "stay below the radar, keep your head down and do the work".... Translation: shut up, don't rock the boat, don't make any enemies or challenge ways of doing things. Just do your job.
