Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

H1B visa holders will be spared in layoff

Heard from insider. If you have H1B visa you should be safe. Reason being that people on visa will have to leave the country if they can't find another job in 90 days. Company si trying their best not to destroy people's lives.

ROTFL. Like Citi cares about destroying lives. H1Bs have advantages and disadvantages like the rest of the workforce. If they can keep someone at the same pay without the visa fees and paperwork, they might do so. Or not, which makes this exercise so confusing.

note that it's "for the same role" - just a few tweaks of the title and job description, you could easily create a new role. the new person hired will be doing much the same thing but immigration won't know or care

Laying off H1b is problematic for company. They can’t hire another employee with h1b for next 12-18 months for same role. Citi will try to save its opportunities.
H1b can be ruled by fear

H1B workers should be let go before full time employees. (FTE)
H1B workers should be let go before US based workers who work for this US based bank.

+ 1..No one has immunity at this time. I know of people with this work visa too who were not spared as part of the recent 2K layoff.
