Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

I really want to leave

But not all of us can easily find another job. So many are looking now, and tech jobs are scarce. Being an average Intel employee is not exactly a recommendation. After sending out my resume for months and not having much luck, I have a feeling we are being overlooked next to people who come from other companies which stand better. I really, really hope I’m wrong.

@1oyt This highlights why Intel's automation is lagging behind competitors by about 15 years. The current system is quite clunky, making it difficult to get tools up and running efficiently. Many advanced tools aren't widely adopted, even though they could lead to significant labor savings. As Intel continues to reduce headcount to stay functional, it’s crucial that we prioritize modernizing and implementing automation across the board.

Try out Upwork... but be ready to take a large pay cut since you will be competing with skilled workers from Asia that only required 20 cents on the dollar compared to your past bloated US wages.

Wait cut the BS for a minute. Seriously who is hiring us? Please list them. I have seen only one person out of dozens actually been able land something. Seriously help everyone out and list who is willing to actually hire us?

I am in TD automation, it is supposed to be a software department. But only a few people (10%) know software and can program to junior college level. 800 people do not have knowledge or software skills. They just sit in meetings. The general manager has no clue at all. They are the people dominating Intel TD now.

Even in the best of time it takes 2-4 months to get into a new job. Think back to how long it took to get hired at Intel from the time you submitted your resume. Unless you know someone on the inside it is a slow process. Late in the year is always harder since hiring isn't the top priority before the holidays. This year is even harder since companies are slowing down hiring in general.

Feel like this is true. 2 years ago intel did help me at least get interviews. But if you are G8 or higher IC… probably 2/3s of the companies won’t even meet the comp you want.

Intel has great pay and benefits, even if your feelings are hurt currently because of things declining recently.

Intel is not Facebook, not Nvidia, not Apple. Temper your expectations.

25 years with Intel taught me to diversify. A few years ago in the Intel cafe I had a conversation with a guy who worked as a fab technician, didn't like his job, and did not take my recommendation to find another job within Intel. Its these kinds of people who won't grow that Intel wants to move out the door. Intel expects people to find their ideal place.

Much of Intel is hardware and process engineering. There just aren’t that many jobs in the US for manufacturing and hardware.

Intel does all their employees a major disservice by pigeon holing employees to very narrow niche areas. “Spin coater on a TEL tool” “LAM etch module” “SPC chart reader”. This makes most employees who have been at intel for more than than 3-4yrs very unmarketable.

Even if you work for ATTD, your area of influence and experience is very narrow. Almost all other hardware companies want people with experience in the entire manufacturing process, whether is IC or packaging, since they farm all that work out to TSMC or OSATs.

The second thing that hurts intel folks is how they write their CVs, somehow there are 50+ people who all enabled FOVEROS or GAA, who each ran 30+ppl task forces that saved $10MM & increased yields by 30%. It’s all arbitrary and clearly BS.

Every intel CV is fluffed up and vague on what they actually know. You bring in a few of these folks for interviews, realize they don’t have a holistic understanding of the industry, you begin to screen more rigorously. I am ex-Intel and I see tons of intel CVs and they are all the same. Hiring managers are just exhausted with CVs written as if the applicant is trying to go from G8 to G9 and not written for an external role.

Software and design may be different. I dunno, not my area.

But for HW, other companies want to know exactly what your specific strengths are and how they can quickly insert you into a team. Unfortunately most employees below grade 10 have very narrow areas of influence and cannot really help most other companies. They don’t give a sh-t if you saved intel $55,000,000; because A) no one believes that sh-t & B) being good at your job and making the company money is just expected.

It will be more difficult for higher grades - especially in "management." Additionally, company specific roles that don't directly contribute to developing or manufacturing products and other "skills" that won't easily transfer outside

There is a shadow ban going on for us. No one wants to hire us. Why would they? To posion their own well with the issues that ki-led Intel? Some companies have been flat out open and honest publicly stating they won’t hire former Intel employees.

LinkedIn offers? Haha you sweet summer child. Go pursue one. Let us know what happens

I started looking in Q1’23 and it took 18 months to finally land a suitable opportunity externally that will pay roughly 30-35% less. No sugar-coating things… it can a tough slog to find something…
