I know many folks look forward to a pretty severence and instant vastung package for eerily retirement

Here is the problem...at least in North America. This is occurring at the worst time of the year to look for work, so if your severance covers you into March/April, then cool. However, if it doesn't...for instance, you've only been with the company a year or two...then you might consider taking the offer, but definitely should keep looking. The job market is just not great regardless of what the media is telling you...and as mentioned...the time leading up to the holidays is awful to job hunt. Considering that no one will likely know until mid-Oct, it's a risky proposition to think you'll be finding something prior to the severance running out. Good luck everyone.

I do not believe for one minute that we will double our pay, let’s be real here. In my conversations with people at BC the stock is good and that’s it. Inform yourselves by talking to actual people who work there instead of what is written here.

This is going to be unpopular but:

I'm angling for the offer only so that I can get far enough into the US green card process where changing employers isn't going to make me have to redo steps of the process.

3 years in and still going and I'm not even from a country with a backlog.

Downvote away as it seems the opinion here is to hate all visa holders working for VMware and the larger US economy.

If we could work remotely I would give it a try if given an offer. I don’t live near an office and would not relocate so that pretty much made my decision for me.

Broadcom RSU and APB package is generous. They run lean and you the employee are rewarded for it. Hock is an operational genius and he will extract every morsel of value out of VM Ware. Stock will go over $1000 easily.

I am hoping for a layoff but unfortunately, I am a good employee in a key role and expect to get an offer. If I do get an offer I will decline it and hope somehow that the end of VMware as an entity triggers a severance package. Either way, I am out as I would have never applied to work for Broadcom voluntarily, why would I work for them involuntarily? There is much more to life than comp and RSUs.

If I'm given the chance I wish to stay and see what the future holds for the company. Based on the pros and cons of Broadcom seen on Glassdoor (summarized by AI below), it doesn't seem to be too bad of a company, and there should be a good reason why the attrition rate is quite low.

Pros:

  • Good financial package
  • Attractive RSU and bonus
  • Great bonus if BU meets the quota
  • Opportunity to participate in stock purchase
  • Clear direction and mission communicated
  • High targets and KPIs will be rewarded
  • Good salary/benefits and RSU
  • A good working environment
  • Great colleagues
  • An attractive compensation package
  • RSU and bonus are also good
  • Good management from a business-side point of view
  • You get paid to deliver

Cons:

  • Lack of training
  • Retrenchment is common
  • Constant fear of getting retrenched
  • No work-life balance
  • Short time frame to deliver
  • Basic benefits (meeting market standards) but not excellent
  • Limited movements within the company

Severance, of course. I'm in the EUC BU and I will not work for a company run by Private Equity. The leftover employees at Citrix are miserable. And I just don't see a future in device management software anymore - it's a declining software category.

unless you are counting the increase in AVGO share prices; which is not a predictably repeatable.

Odds are Hock keeps that stock price rising. Now he will right this wasteful ship and take AVGO stock to the next level. We all know the huge inefficiencies and wasted exec/mgmt salary at VMware. My pet rock could run VMware more efficiently, though I’d rather put my money behind Hock and his Dell / Silver Lake partners.

"People who stayed as part of the Symantec and CA Technologies acquisition are making double or triple their previous compensation." - I have a hard time believing this was the rule rather than the occasional exception, unless you are counting the increase in AVGO share prices; which is not a predictably repeatable.

If you’re given a stay-offer TAKE IT and see how it goes.

The problem with that is how it may go, which is getting no generous severance, no transition bonus, and a whole lot of nothing when laid off months from now.

Severance: Get months of pay and don't have to work.
Transition: Work for six months and get a nice bonus.
Offer: Get a raise but no bonus when laid off.

So-
Three months of pay for no work.
Nine months of pay for six months of work.
Work at a higher rate and no bonuses.

People who stayed as part of the Symantec and CA Technologies acquisition are making double or triple their previous compensation.

My suggestion is to stay rational:

If you are let go on day 1 you’ll take your severance and be on your way.

If you’re asked to stay on in a transition role you can make a nice transition bonus at the end and know you’re term date and can plan accordingly for your next job. Also keep in mind that some people put on transition were then asked to stay in permanent roles which is a possibility.

If you’re given a stay-offer TAKE IT and see how it goes.

If you’re asked to return to the offIce don’t be so quick to walk away.

AGAIN YOU COULD DOUBLE (or more) your compensation. In a world where everything has gotten ridiculously expensive this opportunity could be a big deal for you even if you only stay for a few years.

REMAIN RATIONAL. KEEP AN OPEN MIND.

The ONLY 2 reasons I could ever imagine anyone wanting to stay are:

  1. Hock kicks Raghu and his blubbering, lazy, id--ts in "leadership" to the curb as his first move. Zero confidence they can right this ship... heck would probably drown under a flipped kayak on Lake Tahoe...
  2. Hock cuts out the deadweight and waste and supports with significant perf. related $$ and resource the teams in BU and direct sales to build better products and sell to & service customers much more efficiently and effectively.

Even with that it would be a 50/50 so preference ultimately is just pay me to walk and have a great life!

Severance please. Got a good few years under my belt, ready for a change. If I could volunteer then that would work for me and increase the chances of the next person keeping their job if that it what they wanted. Not up to me, sadly.

I am in the retirement camp. Kept looking for excuses to retire so I hope to get the severance. If I won’t get the severance and be in either stay permanent or transition - I will decline those and leave anyway.

I decided to retire about two months before we started talking about acquisition so I kinda hoped it would be over quicker but there we go. Seem to be closer \o/
