Please extend WFH through 2021

If any Oxy execs read this, PLEASE extend WFH through 2021 at least. In spite of what a few random people say, I think the vast majority of us are extremely productive from home. It allows us to have better physical and mental health and means SO MUCH right now.

Lol since when is it effeminate to take the riskier stance on something? Also, of course I realize it isn't just a flu/cold. It's a novel virus that could have God-knows-what long-term consequences for people who have had it, even if they get past it pretty easily.

I partly don't really care anymore, and I also partly just hate what all this bs supports. You know how many people have lost their livelihoods because some dumb–ses in government thought closing everything down was a good idea? How can you weigh the potential loss of life in the 500K - 1M range against 30M+ people being unemployed and potentially being unable to feed their kids or keep their homes? It's absurd to me. I've lost a family member to the disease, and it s—s. It was brutal on my family, especially my parents and my mom's siblings. But is our loss more miserable than getting evicted and now ending up homeless would be to another family? I'm convinced it isn't and almost assuredly could never be. We are by no means minimizing human suffering by keeping everything shut down and cowering in our homes.

Plus, let's be dispassionate about things for a moment: we could probably use a little population reduction anyway.

It IS immature. And full disclosure, I'm not one of these old farts you guys keep tearing apart on this thread. I am a young millennial, born in '91. I don't know how you WFH advocates aren't going absolutely insane staying at home all day every day. Sure it was fun for a while but it's starting to feel like we are just being paid for sitting at home, and that's not a great psychological effect. Home is the escape, it's the place of hobbies and fun and unwinding. Now we have all this work b—s— polluting our place of happiness. I'd happily sacrifice all the time saved to keep them separate again. Sure, going into the office every day is a grind but THAT'S WHAT WE ALL SIGNED UP FOR. They pay us to come in, drink the koolaid, and be marginally productive doing something we probably hate. They don't pay us to sit at home, shirk responsibilities, wiggle our mouse every 15 minutes, and do virtually everything but actually get work done. It's f—ing depressing. And God help you if you have kids (I just have a puppy and that feels like an insurmountable distraction already). Can't get help from the wife, either, because she works in healthcare and you can't do that work from home.

Going back into the office won't make me hate my job or the company any less, but it'll sure make my home a much better place to be. Jesus the electric bills alone would be enough to make me hate working from home.

The people who want WFH even after COVID-19 disgust me completely. Now you can argue safety but after the virus it is just laziness. If they want WFH they must accept lower salary and benefits due to oversupply of people who can do their jobs. Why not just have people from other countries working for 25% to 50% of US pay work these jobs. There are many qualified people who cannot get visas to work in the US. But it is your career so go for the WFH with lower compensation. It seems a little immature to me.

It is going to be a tough decision to go back when called back, but Oxy can do what they want. I will be trying to take as much vacation as possible before heading back in.

If WFH is successful it makes no sense to make people go back into the office and increase overhead. Especially if Vicki is lifting seat cushions to sc-ape up enough money to pay daddy Buffet his coupon payments. Still can’t get over that sh*t show of a deal

If there isn’t much work then thecompany should furlough people now. What a waste of money. They are not acting in the stockholders best interest.
If they can’t furlough because of COC then this was the dumbest acquisition ever conceived and the person responsible should be fired.

Dude, comment below, we are running 1 freaking rig. This is a safety thing. The company should be protecting their employees, not forcing people back to the office when the workload is light right now anyway (like I said 1 rig).

A real leader at a company would be trying to help the company return to normal and get employees back to functioning. Not sure how you can try and work to make both oxy and apc employees work together and collaborate with work from home until 2021 demands. Not sure about this thread.

Well one good thing about WFH and videoconferencing is that millennials are forced to use verbal communication. Just last year trying to get millennials to call someone on the phone was damn near impossible. They would almost melt if you suggested having a dreaded phone call rather than doing it with inefficient text or email.

The previous post couldn’t be more off the mark. Oxy doesn’t want to get sued when someone gets sick at work. Hey dinosaurs, it’s 2020, work from home is a thing now, get over it! I get it that you have to stay home and see your ugly wives, but how is that our fault?

Stupid. Just stupid. Let’s all be honest. If you’re going outside of your home then you need to get your behind back to the office. Admit it - every last one of you are going to the grocery, out to eat, to church, to parties, on vacations and flying in planes, going to kids ballgames....etc. your chances of getting Covid are 1000 times higher in all those places than going back to work. So as a stockholder or this POS company - you need to get back to work! People working from home claim higher productivity so take that Learned productivity and use it in the office !!!!

The least management can do is allow WFH through the end of the year after not giving raises in 2020 and cutting everyone’s salary 30%. Plus, let’s not act like we are getting bonuses this year either.

You are totally correct that WFH is healthier for you. But who really cares about the employees health except to lower health care costs. The big question is if WFH is better for the profit and net income of the company. Sorry about that truth.

I have a couple of pre existing conditions and Covid is an added risk for me. Also have been able to lose about 10 pounds by not eating junk from the food court while rushing to get back to office work. The time used to be wasted commuting is now better spent exercising and improving family relationships. WFH is the way to go. I wouldn’t mind a couple of days during the week back in the office after we all get vaccinated late 2021.

Fairly simple, if you wanna keep working from home after the main offices are opened then stay home and take your paycut. The rest of us kept everything running without you before and will continue to do so in spite of you. Stay locked in your spare bedroom and have your wife's boyfriend grab you some soy milk on his way over.

The new generation are a bunch of idealists because they are young.
I heard the following the other day that you should think about.
“The hippies were out to change the world until they wanted to buy a BMW”. Maybe not the exact quote. The point is that once you grow up you will learn that your priorities change. And no matter how old we are we are still growing up.

People will come to work for the money in the future. They don’t need a work from home option.

The managers would have to be the enforcers of the masks. Just like they enforced policies when they walked the halls to check up on people. After a while a good manager knows By observation who is following the rules and who is not.

I agree work from home should be an option to save on office space and maybe just help get people to come to work for Oxy at a later date. Now my decision is not based on the Virus as the Virus just allowed us to work from home, and it proved we could. Below are the numbers. The numbers show you have a small chance of getting Covid, but there is that chance, and if you have pre-existing conditions there is a bigger chance you will not make it. Until there is a vaccine that works we are just going to have to keep our mask on and practice social distancing. If we do go back to the office I think you are going to see people getting really upset when people walk around without mask or practice bad habits. I think HR will be very busy with people turning each other in.

  1. 7 billion people in the world and 29,000,000 caught Covid to date for less than 1/2 of one percent (.0037).

330 million people in USA and 2.8 million cases for less than 1% at (.0084).
330 million people in USA and 197K deaths (.00060).
2,8 million cases in USA and 197K deaths for a death rate around 7%.

All you people whining about staying home to work need to stop b–ching. Field employees have had to go to work every single day through this sh– and are still alive. You’re not going to die if you have to go back to the office. Quite frankly, with the reduction in activity to the point that there has been zero activity since March, you all are lucky to still have jobs. I hate this company as much as anyone, but for f—s sake, shut up.
