Thread regarding Pearson PLC layoffs

And the actual Pearson Alumni URL....

https://alumni.pearson.com/

I would LOVE to know the method behind this move of Pearson’s. They anticipate 5000 people to join the site within the first 12 months. Don’t know what the set-up of the site will be but I don’t know too many people that left Pearson on good terms per say.

My bet?...depends on the ability to set-up fake accounts or not. If you can....and there’s even the slightest ability to “post” within the site....it will last no longer than 6-12 months, just too many disgruntled employees who now have a way to slam Pearson.

Will be interesting to see how things flush out!

How I love seeing facebook ads for this atrocity- while deep in the midst of another round of layoffs- how DECENT of Pearson!

This "Alum" thing is new to corporate America and run by a third party. Apparently someone sold Pearson on the idea - which is just a horrible move no matter how one slices it. Lest you be enticed to join, do know this: there is not an active discussion board or anything close, members have no way of posting or expressing themselves there. The communication is one way (top down). ALSO - the very first step after clicking the email verification link is to set up your account. User Name, Password, standard stuff. And then you are forced to connect to your LinkedIn profile, agreeing that Pearson can "post as you" on LinkedIn, "message other members as you" etc. etc. WAY too invasive, I opted out at that point. Sites like this and the Pearson Alum "Group" on Facebook are much better options IMO, as at least here (and on FB) one can offer their comments and opinions and NOT give away every inch of privacy!

TheLayoff is our alumni site bro. Here you hear what people really think. And Fallon & his minions have zero control over it.

They want your contact info so they can sell to you once you leave.

That's it, nothing more than a sales driven initiative. A sneaky one though.

This is a slap in the face of all of us who devotes years of our lives to this company. NOW THEY WANT TO BE OUR FRIEND? It's insulting!

Love or hate Trump, at least you know what he's thinking and that he has a strategy. Certainly debatable if it's the right strategy, but at least you know where he stands. JF & KC?, I can't figure out WTF they are doing. The last 5 years have been about re-org, streamlining systems and platforms, and NONE of it has been executed well. What has happened is that stock prices have plummeted, products have become worse, service to customers has become worse, and 20K people have been let go from the company, and NOW they think it's important to establish an Alumni network to foster better relationship and collaboration with ex-employees. How tone deaf can a company be? They certainly did not have an interest in fostering a better relationship with me when they cut me loose after 15 years of service, 2 kids in College and a mortgage. Oh, I'm joining the network, and I'm going to be very outspoken in communicating about how I feel about being a member of the alumni community.

By the way, I'm doing great. Landed a great job, with good people, and a company that values my contribution everyday.

John Fallon is to Pearson what Donald Trump is to America

This might as well be an Onion article. Layoff 13k people, then set up an Alumni Network because they now somehow value ex-employees. #ToneDeaf

I wonder how many people are working on this site. Who decided that rep jobs should be cut BUT alum website mangers are a must. Will this team help customers when there is a tech outage or a product goes out of stock? Insane to have people working on non customer focused efforts when the company is in this much trouble. “The customer is at the center of everything we do”... PLEASE! KC & JF, please put your payroll to better use. Another example of poor decision-making by this dynamic duo.
