Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

How about Automotive employees?

Do y'all think automotive (which I think is doing pretty well) is going to be affected by the layoffs?

One can see that the executive management in Q are hyping up the auto as the next big thing and money spinner. I can understand the hype surrounding AI and CA and everyone else trying to pump it to the max. However, on the auto front, I hope there are enough smart people in the board to know that automotive is a different beast altogether.

In a smart phone, no one cares about the device reliability during critical or especially harsh environment. You miss one call, there is silent redial feature that takes of it. You may not even notice that your smartphone has crashed and rebooted. It may happen due to hardware or due to software. You do encounter some bad pieces of hardware and those phones are covered by warranty. Problem solved. However, in vehicular scenarios, if there is hardware failure due to whatever reason, it will get scrutinized by everyone ranging from NHTSA to individual test labs. Guess what is going to happen after that?

There is a reason that the likes of AAPL or GOOG are treading extremely carefully in automotive world. IMO, Q is uniquely unfit, unqualified and incapable of entering into automotive field. Hope it does not end up like Takata.

Automotive will be "impact"ed, and you're all crash test dummies.

If you are not a status collector, you are toast. Stay looking for a new job before October layoffs.
