Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Ford Vehicle Design is out of touch

Jim Farley was surprised to see how much less components and wiring in the Tesla and Chinese EV. Ford did the tear down of the Model Y in 2021 and it shows how superior Tesla vehicle design is. Farley had no idea and Ford vehicle design stayed the same as it was for 100 years. What a joke.

@p7 Who's d-mb enough to be that gullible? We don't tear them down to learn, we tear them down to justify. Get with it, management knows better, it's a game - play and have some fun. What's the deal with all the snowflakes putting down building arrangements on this site? No one likes it but who really cares? Just give me enough room to sit and a place to charge my phone. Get real people....

Tear down exposes process, material, and weight. You can ignore it or chase it. The allow cost estimating to set price in excepting bid. If
A disagreement occurs lay out all detail and compare with the OCE. Hey MGT back up your estimators you d-mb as--s

Are we looking forward to a latte with Doug tomorrow? I found some nice tasseled slippers, no competition with the his pink bunny slippers, but they are cozy!

I agree some people here love the drama to propagate. But lets talk frankly about how things are managed and how Ford learns from mistakes. Government fines for having to fix a recall more than 2 times. Mechanics shortage because these vehicles are always breaking and in the shop for a repair, failure, or recall - see the CEO's recent lament. Then we have the way things are shuffled about when there is a failure of management - blame either middle management or GSR's and shed them, not re-purpose their expertise to another area that sorely needs guidance. Instead, let's re-org every 3 months and see how it goes. This kind of behavior at the top has the less skilled employees panicking, and the skilled ones that know their worth looking at each other, shaking their heads, and taking the bonuses while they can get them (while looking for other work). There are more than a few reasons Ford led the industry in recalls - no...correction IS the industry when it comes to recalls. S-O-P to sell a bunch of cars just to get sales up and then hope your customers won't be to upset when you have to inconvenience them for recalls that can't be over the air. If you are planning to continue to stake your future on people who run a business this way, then good luck.

Ford did the tear down of the Tesla Model Y in 2021. but Ford did not learn anything from it. Ford design team and their engineers think they are better than Tesla or the Chinese, they were wrong. Now they are 5 years behind the Chinese. It's time to shut down Ford EV or join venture, because Ford do not have the knowledge to make better EVs without losing money.

Christ, you people whined and complained about FNV4 and are now whining about how our architecture is out of date. Pick a damn lane. It's like you love being miserable.

"It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt".

Why mention when this when the new electrical architecture was mothballed and supposed to solve this problem.

Slate hired a GM electrical architecture expert. They created a new system in less time.

Instead of working with Rivian, leadership thought they were smarter. Meanwhile at the halls of justice...FNV3.

@bd There are zero OEMs who have vehicles that don't use CAN.

didn't they do tear downs of Teslas way before they started MachE and F150 lightning? Telsa has been around for a while.

Ford is unable (unwilling) to build a vehicle without CAN. That is where the problem starts.

Most Ford vehicles are instant classics. People pay a premium for a reason.

There are engineers that know how to make the product better except they are not decision makers because they don't want to be. The ones that do make decisions are marketing and business people that have no idea how to design a product. Ford needs another Alan M. JF just copies others, no original ideas.

Ford CEO Jim Farley was inspired to lead an overhaul of the automaker's electric vehicle strategy after examining rival EVs. On a recent podcast, Farley said he came to the "shocking" realization that Ford needed a major company reset after tearing down Tesla and Chinese EVs and noticing how much less electrical wiring they required. He then established the Model E division in 2022. Despite a recent EV slowdown in the U.S., Farley believes EV innovation remains vital globally. Meanwhile, Ford is considering scrapping its electric F-150 pickup.

Ford did the teardown research in 2021 and they have done nothing to improve their vehicle design to be more competitive. Ford is definitely in the stone age.

I guarantee that Ford vehicles of 100 years ago had less wiring than any Tesla today.
