Thread regarding Optum layoffs

@p4 Glad you are planning ahead. I'm one of the people who was let go in Q1 and my job was not moved offshore, just absorbed by my coworkers. As stressful as it was to lose a job, I know they are stressed and overworked and still likely to be laid off this year. Nobody wins.

Watched my colleague get laid off in January and I was forced to pick up their projects. All I could think of was wish it had been me because my severance would have been long enough to take a break and find something new. I have now started to build my own ‘side hustles’ so I have a business to launch into when the ax finally comes. Every weekend I crank and build websites, social media presence, articles, blog posts. But my time during the week is limited because this company decided it’s okay to have me work TWO jobs for same pay and benefits. If & when I get laid off I will say “thank you!” 😂

I have been begging to be laid off for the last five years. Finally just gave up and retired as I do not want to be here when our network is breached and with the people they are hiring now it is only a matter of time. The blind are now leading the blind at Optum/UHG. Good luck to those that remain.

I’m so sorry you feel that way but you’re not alone. I’ve been there more than I can say. Burnout is so real and so unhealthy for our mind, body, families, society, everything. God bless! try not to worry your life will always be on track!!

Worst industry to be in after cellular, banking, internet, health insurance and crack hoe. Good luck. 1990s are gone

@OP just know you’re not alone. While unemployment scares me in this job market, a huge part of me wants to be on the list for the next RIF. Optum is chaos and has felt like a huge backstep for me and my career.

I’ve been unemployed for a full year now following my layoff from Optum. The job market is very challenging, and the healthcare sector has been especially hard hit. I’ve picked up some hourly work, but professional roles have been difficult to find. Many of the organizations I’ve applied to are also downsizing.

I strongly encourage those at Optum to have an exit plan. Severance can run out more quickly than expected, leading to reliance on savings or retirement funds. Unfortunately, I believe additional layoffs at Optum will be even worse in 2026.
