Thread regarding VMware layoffs

The Omnissa Turnaround has Stalled

Firing our SVP and VP sales leaders hasn't stopped the decline. Nothing changed. We still have no plan to resolve the revenue shortfall. What now? More layoffs are expected to cut our bloated operating costs.

Well... This post below not age well... Everyone who said “I told you so was right ;( “ … good lesson to learn when there is smoke hey maybe there really is fire and to start with calm but serious questions...

My manager said that the next headcount reduction won't be as big as the last. I'm still concerned that KKR will push for bigger cuts. They don't believe our current leaders can fix our numerous business problems.

"More layoffs are expected to cut our bloated operating costs."

The organization is top heavy -- too many managers, too few 'working' employees. The high cost is middle-managers, not in the employees that contribute their expertise.

Kevin and Rob were both let go for the same reason, they made revenue commitments that they didn't deliver. It's really that simple. In sales you either perform or you leave.

Kevin J. was the VP of Americas End User Computing who was removed in September for poor performance. That is a fact, just like the ongoing revenue shortfall. Ruelas was fired after Kevin. More of the Omnissa sales team will likely be terminated for poor performance. The rapid turnaround is a priority for KKR.

I have a problem with the content of "Robert Ruelas’ exit message"

There are numerous items where he credits himself for success. I call BS on these claims. He left us with a tu-d sales legacy and a declining pipeline of renewal opportunities. He and his sales leadership may be grateful for all their bonuses. What a crock of sh-t.

Robert Ruelas’ exit message :

After over 15 years at VMware, Broadcom and Omnissa, it's time for me to start a new venture. It has been exciting to lead the Revenue team at Omnissa as we transitioned to an independent business within Broadcom and launched Omnissa in July under KKR. I am honored and privileged to have lead the Revenue team.  I am extremely grateful for what we accomplished as we transitioned from a 90% perpetual business to 90% subscription model over the last few years.

I am very proud of our recent success with a truly inspiring kickoff in August followed by our Omnissa launches in Tokyo, Dallas and Amsterdam in September and October.

I want to thank our Customer Success and Professional Services teams that made my promises to customers a reality. I also want to thank our Account Executives that consistently represented our customers requirements and helped us get so many customers.  I also want to thank our Systems Engineers, Pursuit, Subject Matter Experts and Center of Excellence teams who helped us influence customers and got them on board with our vision.

I also want to recognize our revenue operations, sales enablement and sales strategy teams that helped us forecast, do compensation plans, build our GTM strategy and close the business which was no easy task as we transitioned between companies and launched Omnissa as a private company.

None of this would have been possible without a strong echosystem of partners from Google, to Amazon Web Services (AWS), IGEL Technology, ControlUp, Presidio, World Wide Technology, Creative ITC, ITQ, SoftBank Group Corp., Fujitsu, 필라웨어Feelaware, Tech Orchard, Schiffel IT and many more. Thank you for your partnership and feedback on how we could be better.

For my customer who bet on me and my team. Thank you for the confidence you placed on our vision and your effort to make work better for your employees. I hope we did not let you down.

While I have left Omnissa, I believe in building relationships for "life” which transcends the companies I work for.  Stay in touch, I look forward to connecting with you wherever I land.  Until then, have a great week.

#3.8 billion paid for $1.5 billion EUC revenues. This is less than 3x. Even a auto repair franchise would command better multiple than that. KKR has nothing better to do? AI Crypto or Fintech?

Where are you getting your facts?

Yes, the CRO has been fired, but no other sales VPs.

And where are you getting revenue shortfall? Omnissa is privately held and doesn't publish numbers. You may not have made your quota, but if you have been around sales for a while, you know that companies typically set sales target in a way that they can exceed their revenue plans even if sales bookings targets are missed.

So, stop the fear mongering. You only play to the anxious and weak ones here.

"KKR people are not some geniuses."

They know how to buy low and sell high. Meanwhile, before they are ready to sell Omnissa, the MBA bean counters assigned to this deal must figure out how to improve profitability from a declining enterprise software space that few CIOs care about.

Many more months of operation analysis and resulting headcount cuts are required.

KKR people are not some geniuses. These are the same hedge/investment funds that were falling over themselves to invest in the 420 million (wink wink) that Sam Bankman-Fraud raised for FTX and that went to zero.

They are just money managers who skim off the top in management fees. These private investments are not marked to market on a daily or quarterly or annual basis. Its just on their books for whatever value they assign. Its not a publicly traded stock.

Grubhub was bought for 7.5 billion and sold for 650 million after two years.

Interest rates went up by .75% after the fed cut rates by .75%. So, these hedge funds are faaaaaked. 90 billion paid for VMware is just being spread around into other sister funds.

Mostly Chinese CCP money flowing into these assets in the US. No one cares if they all go to zero.

"Sounds like a sound biz strategy."

True, KKR wants to improve profitability from the few remaining customers. CIOs who are too busy with higher-priority IT investment decisions, like Generative AI, don't care about old UEM and VDI software apps. They leave them alone or trim them down to size.

A slow death from customer attrition is Omnissa's most likely outlook.

They would rather chase a handful of big deals and abandon the multitude of smaller deals that might take a little more work and less profitable

Broadcom set the wheels in motion by sh-t-ng all over the technical community and focusing on just big partners. That left a lot of smaller partners, who probably didn't make Broadcom a lot of money, but were the biggest product evangelists, p-ssed off. When you lose the hearts and minds of the technical community, you're done as a technical company. It's a common mistake made by the C-Suite that came up through sales and never learned to appreciate the grass-roots technical community that are a marketing force multiplier. They would rather chase a handful of big deals and abandon the multitude of smaller deals that might take a little more work and less profitable, but are steady with the intangible of massive product/company promotion.

This always happens, a white or chinese man innovates the product, the company peaks and reaches its potential, he and the other original engineers leave because they know the company has run its course. Then a PE buys the firm, puts a indian puppet CEO in place, and just cut costs and milks the top customers till its dry. lifecycle of IT.
