Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Not about reducing severance

I hear this argument and hate it for it's misinformation.

It's not 2+2 math. Employees don't just up and quit thus saving severance.

Good marketable employees take a few months to job hunt then quit.
Bad employees take longer or just linger on hiding between cracks.
Then you have the quiet quitters just doing enough to get by.

It's a you threw out the baby and kept the bath water.

Severance is a lot cheaper since it's a measured culling of the herd.
Severance is a tax write-off.

Because they are offering remote means they are trying to avoid a stampede out the door.

did you even bother to read the article?

those companies are doing RTO only. no remote option
That article goes on to defend how the strategy backfires.

Yes, I heard that non sales attrition that happens will not be allowed to backfill. Sales would be subject to backfill at only 70% (or was it 80%?). It IS about reducing HC and raising productivity

"I disagree" is not compelling counter point. You do realise it's not a come to office or quit mandate right???!

You people seem to think there is some master plan to force attrition yet these sinister forces are incapable of any other strategic thinking.

It's readily apparent Dells does not hire the best and brightest.

This is completely about reducing headcount AND severance costs.

Assuming anyone at the top is doing any sort of strategic thinking about this is giving them way too much credit.
They don’t care about keeping good employees or the future of the company because the golden parachute is there for them when they fail.

Dell want to reduce headcount slowly.
The systems are not 100% as yet to push full online or frictionless.
Hence they still need some staff just not the number they once had.
