I was part of the WFR and I am looking for a job in Tech for a month and I am having no luck whatsoever. What is the status of the Tech Jobs market? Is it that bad where getting an opportunity is near to an impossible? Is it about knowing people and connections to get you in?

"My advice is to drink heavily....' ; )
I was laid off during August WFR and was in sales for almost 6 years. Started my new job day after Labor Day and started to decline interviews after I received my job offer. I looked at my LinkedIn connections to see if their companies were hiring and asked for recommendations. Located in RR and focused more on hybrid postings as full remote was more competitive.
@2lrb+1ouIx4Yj pay slightly better, bonus plan and lots of stock. Far less stress and infighting. Management actually knows what they're doing. I have yet to see management keep their job based on butttt smooooch capabilities.
A guy I know who was laid off a couple of weeks ago (SPS) just announced he was going to work for a competitor. Only took him a couple of weeks.
I guess it just depends on who you know/what you know/and how good your reputation is for being successful
I've seen other people laid off last Feb still looking for work so I don't know what the real magic is.
for more or less pay???
I was 20+ years at Dell, white male late 50s. Found a new gig in Tech within 3 months

Are you sure you didn't just run the diverse mail CV through spellcheck? @1ttl+1ouIx4Yj
I've sent basically the same resume to a company, one as a while male and the other with a more diverse set of qualifications. This was done through the checkboxes, you know the ones. Diverse 1, white maile 0
rfa+1ouIx4Yj: I dont think anything is isolated to white or any other color.
If you have the skills compared to the competition, you will be hired.
The problem is about politics. If the hiring manager feels you do politics, then he wont hire you inspite of your skills. This is true for candidates of all ethnicities.
Be honest in accepting how Dell culture is.
Dell EMC is known for politics and harassment across the industry.
my observation.
It will be 1 month for every year at dell.
10y at dell? will take 10 mnths for you to find comparable
yes plenty of older white people in current positions. The question was posed as finding a new job if you hadn't noticed, for which if you're an older white male, you don't make it beyond the application.
It is not just older white male, 65+ older white females who are experts in politics and passive aggressive behavior are the worst. They think they own the company and they lie to keep the power equation in the team. The boss is too busy spending time on personal activities outdoors . He also lacks ability to manage teams.
This is direct result of promoting people without skills.
Now they will not only waste Dell investment on their salary, they waste Dell investment on new business opportunities. Someone else who doesnt do politics is getting laid off due to their politics.
Until Dell cleans up these EMC politicians, it cannot hire or retain skilled employees and this layoff will continue.
@ons+1ouIx4Yj keep whining. Modern society is moving on without you. Either adjust to the fact that diversity is the new world and you need to be more than just a white male or end up being the rubbish by the side of the road.
@ktd+1ouIx4Yj. Whippersnapper full of Dell indoctrination. Check back in 30 yrs bet we hear different story.
Holy cow. Is there just one sad dude who stalks this board whining about the injustices of being a white male. My man, you are still in the dominant position. Look at the vast leadership of most corporations, most Sr level jobs in IT, in most leadership roles in the US government. Lots of white males. Now the fact that the playing field is evening out and other people with different melanin levels are getting shot at some of these positions may be discouraging to you because apparently you have no talent beyond being that white male. Sorry but society moves on. Either adjust and get in and be a good person or get left on the side of the road with the rest of the rubbish.
Depends on your location! For example I see a lot of movement in Europe on the job market! I don’t know your background but I’d use my time to skill up on AI/ML etc. if you were at dell for a long time chances are that you are well versed from a infrastructure perspective now build some knowledge on that! Learn more about GPUs, NPUs, storage in the age of AI! Look at Run:Ai, etc. your chances to land something with this knowledge are higher
Job market is so-so okay. How long were you at dell?
If a long time at dell then it's going to take you a while to land elsewhere.
