It’s closer to 35% cut in some areas of HR. Not fake news, it’s real and many good people I know have been impacted. This is not about market “optics”, this is affecting real people’s lives.
Intel announced 10,000 and they have close to the same number of employees, close to a 9% layoff...
Number will be closer to 3% than 30%
Cutting that amount would signal to the financial markets that Dell is in deep trouble. I doubt that amount is being cut.

The goal is to get to around 90,000 employees. Right now, Dell has around 123,000. Do the math.
Not a chance. This would be terrible optics from an investment standpoint to cut that deep that quickly. They also need to keep cuts in their back pocket for future quarters. When the market slows they need to show cost savings here and there. They won't blow their load all at once.
30 percent is ridiculous. In no world is that actually happening in one fell swoop.

This will be the first layoffs not the last.

Not true. Cuts are 5% in sales and 1-3% for others. Lots of engineering will be exempt
