On Glassdoor, it says 46 percent of people would recommend EM to a friend. Makes me wonder, do these people not like their friends? Did they do something unforgivable to them? Because why else would you recommend this horrid place with subpar pay, dwindling benefits, and no job security to anybody you supposedly care about???

It’s people who have never worked anywhere else who clutch on to xom like they’ve never grown up. That’s why the company is full of people who are unable to compete. Why else did we just go through a massive hiring spree for experienced hires? THIS IS THE PURGE!!!
I wonder if HR is writing fake positive reviews on Glassdoor. Having seen how things have unfolded in the past few months, I wouldn’t put anything past this sleazy company.

Hey champ, this maybe a shocker to you, but not everyone is bitter about Exxon. I love working for Exxon, and God willing, I will retire from here. I would wholeheartedly recommend Exxon as a place to work to my friends who have work ethic. Now downvote me, ya scumbags.
It’s almost as if people have different experiences in the workplace depending on their role and the organization they are part of!!! What a novel thought!
Seriously, just because you had a terrible experience doesn’t mean everyone did. I would think a lot of people on Glassdoor reviewing the company haven’t worked here for 10+ years and maybe haven’t dealt with some of the politics and management issues other people have. Keep in mind you are currently on a website for layoffs, so a majority of the vocal people on this site probably had bad negative experiences at work. I can honestly say that my time here hasn’t been that bad. I’ve made good friends and have gotten paid well. I have talked to a lot of my peers that feel the same way. 46% seems like a pretty low number to me and obviously not everyone is going in inputting “recommend to a friend” when times are good and then logging back in to say “wouldn’t recommend to a friend” when times are bad.
Depending on which assignment you ask me about, I'd give you different answers. My group now is pretty good. One of my groomsmen at my wedding I met at Exxon, and I met my wife at work. But I've also had bosses that were bad enough to really make me miserable. A lot of it is luck of the draw on your surroundings
OP is a mo–n if he/she/it thinks that the 46% is recent.. Also, people not situated at a manufacturing facility typically have it a lot better.
I worked for ExxonMobil twice....first time in the mid 1990's for refining. Even then the culture/environment was a bit jaded and hierarchical....but it was still reasonable. I left and came back in 2009 into the chemicals organization.....much different and quite a nice place to work. We then got s—ed into the EMRE organization! Worst experience ever. . I was amazed the same company could have such different environments. It was completely different and had all the worst attributes. For me EMRE was the worst organization I've ever seen..terrible management, backstabbing (forceful minority) of colleagues...just an awful place to work. I think of EMRE as a virus, infecting the company from the top down. I think the company would do much better if they just axed the whole of EMRE. The few good folks they have could go to sites and start making a more valuable contribution....instead of just sitting in their ivory tower reviewing and criticizing.
Come on be fair , it’s not sub par pay, we (you) are paid better than most , bad times I agree but don’t try and twist things , if bad why stay
ExxonMobile isn’t the best, but unless you’ve worked several other post college jobs… It’s far from the worst.
It might be old reviews from ‘the glory days’ driving up the number.
