TPS Targets

So in our morning briefing today, I was able to look at the approved structures for TPS only and the target reductions for the BUs. Yes their are targets. I dont know why leaders have to lie about it.

TPS looks like a cut of 25% up from 20% last week but I did not get to count the total number compared to today's numbers.

  • ABU target is 20%
  • CNAEP
  • GOM target is 20%
  • MCBU target is 15%
  • SJV target is 25%
  • CBU target is 25%
  • CPP target is 25%
  • Shipping is 25%
  • DS&C target is 20%

The interesting part is that these numbers don't add up. The overall target for CNAEP is a range of 20% to 25%. With the numbers above, we will not hit 20% because most of the population is in MCBU and GOM. I am guessing we will include the AMBU numbers.

The international numbers range from 10% to 25% based on your region. There is a lot of work to be done between now and June when the majority of employees will feel the heat.

Make no mistake, Mike has already provided a target number. It is unfortunate that our leaders don't want to share so here it is for your review.

Question to @osi—— You said you at the meeting you heard of pre and post numbers with a percentage. But, for example, if the job was in MCBU and it was moved into another organization (not eliminated), it did not count toward the overall reduction. That to me does not make sense. If the objective is to reduce numbers across the enterprise, how does this square when you take a job and move it elsewhere? Doesn’t that actually “ADD” headcount to the other BU? Inquiring minds would like to know.

Are these percentages including contractors?

Odds are probably 50-50 for anyone in a TPS planning role.

JQK The meeting I was in did not discuss the individual calculations. The comments were pre and post numbers with a percentage. Look at prior events. If the job was in MCBU and was moved into another organization (not eliminated), it did not count toward the overall reduction. Take for instance, MCBU has 11 jobs and they have a reduction rate of 50% with 3 of those jobs going to TPS. The 50% calculation would be based on MCBU having 8 employees with the final number set at 4.

Do you know if the functions that are supposed move out of the BUs under the new service company are being calculated as part of their current BU or TPS?

The MCBU number is an attempt to shelter it from the storm so when things ramp back up again, Chevron will have the ability to hit the ground running. I am in Midland and was told a similar number minus contractors. If you add in the contractors, we look like 26%. The other group I heard that will be crushed is HES by as much as 50%. I know these guys have been bashed a lot but it does look like HES will take the brunt of the cuts on a percentage basis. My manager told me that HES will end up reporting through Operations with several of their responsibilities moved to current Ops and D&C Personnel. I do not know anything about TPS.

I do know that SJV will have significant wind-down of personnel between now and fall next year. From low level conversations, I want to say it was discussed that SJV may be turned into a NOJV with another local company. Nothing concrete or formal until an agreement is reached.

Chevron is down to only 5 rigs in the entirety of the Permian Basin. I am a bit surprised that your MCBU number is 15%. I would have figured it to be closer to 25%.

Any guesses on what areas will get hit hardest in TPS?

You numbers are correct but Mike set a target not an absolute. These numbers are goals. We have to look at what comes out as a recommendation from the BUs. Granted they have to move fast. We also have to content with the potential for an acquisition at the beginning of next year and start personnel calculations all over again. We all need to understand that this is the new normal. Do your work and try your best to network with senior leaders. Selected personnel are the ones with positive relationships with the senior leaders. Everyone wants to work with people they get along with. During normal times, challenging personnel are fun. During hard times, collaborative personnel are the ones that keep their jobs. If you are at home, now is the time to get on a project. Work with your manager for facetime. If you have not spoken to your manager in a week, start to worry.

It is all common sense. Your tired HR rep.

I guess they are starting the wind down of SJV then? Or is it removing project facilities and IT waste?
