Thread regarding Raytheon Co. layoffs

Layoffs

Can we get back on topic and discuss layoffs instead of complaining about your job and the vaccine mandates? There had to be another site that will let you gripe.

Anyway what is the latest regarding layoffs? The year is almost over.

The 52 week severance has to be directly tied to merger related layoff. Basically they have to agree that you’re being laid off in some form or another in relation to something with the merger. That’s the only way you get 52 weeks severance. If it’s for any other reason it’s 1 week per year of service.

The person saying the mandate is not related to layoffs is not paying attention. In my technical area lots of talented people are leaving for better jobs, some vaccine related and some not. Regardless, many open positions exist and my team is “aging out”. When we retire in a few years with the lack of younger workers, my team will be down almost half. How can layoffs happen if you are already down so many? I don’t think it can happen.

They're still offering the 52 week severance? I thought that only applied to layoffs in 2020 and any layoffs after go back to the 1 week for every year severance.

A few folks from different BU’s have told me they have heard layoffs are coming next year. I would suspect after the 52 week severance package expires.

I don’t know the specifics of what they’re changing but I do know that something along the way that it is paid out or how much is paid out will be changed as far as I know. Yes it was cancelled in the sense that people that hire in would no longer get a pension but those that already had one could continue to put money into it. I imagine that will also be stopped. So a lot of people close to retirement will be leaving. Which is a very large amount of the workforce.

What's the change to the retirement plan? I have not heard anything. I thought they eliminated the plan back in 2006.

Are they actually firing people who do not get the shot or just laying them off and recall if/when they get the shot?

Well, the supposed layoffs that were rumored to be coming late this year or early next year are likely scrapped. The amount of people leaving from the vaccine mandate is more than expected. Also, the change to Raytheon’s retirement plan takes effect after this coming year so there will be many more legacy Raytheon people that leave then. I don’t think layoffs are needed anymore at this point. If anything we will short handed in all departments.

Let's all play nice. In terms of layoffs, I hear "crickets" every time I ask folks around me. Everyone around me seems swamped with work and plenty of charge numbers to go around. So I can see why folks start to pivot to other topics with layoffs becoming extinct (like dinosaurs).

This page is as about Raytheon layoffs not vaccine mandates or getting a better job at another company (unless you got laid off). I assume that's what you mean by jumping two job levels cause they hot laid off and got another job? If not then stay on topic. Not how much they paid for this company or mandates, etc. Now again what is the latest on Raytheon layoffs?

Whoever keeps wanting to go back to the topic of layoffs must have been living in a cave for the past couple years. It's an employee's (not employer's) job market out there (and continues to be). I know coworkers who went from P3 to P5 in just a couple of years by changing jobs. So how does one go back to a topic that is currently obsolete?!!

I suppose this guy thinks it's a buyer's (not seller's) housing market out there too, LOL.

If they don’t get the vaccine, they can bi--h but in the end it is their own fault. Maybe there will be more opportunities for external and internal people.

Go to the gripe page to complain. Not the layoff page. Also stop blaming others for your decision. You either comply or you don't. It's as simple as that. SCM issued a mandate awhile back that all salaried must have college degrees. All the managers scrambled to the internet schools to comply. The point is they have the power to make requirements and either you meet them or not. If you can't understand this simple concept then you should not be working at RTX. Now back on topic. What is the latest on layoffs?

I agree that layoffs are the least of our problems right now (so much demand for engineers, not enough engineers). I hate that Biden's EO used gov contracts as "hostage" to Greg Hayes. And I hate that Greg Hayes then used our jobs as "hostage" to force us to vax.

That is the least of many of our worries right now. I feel bad for you that you just consider people on here to be 'complaining'about their job and the vaccine mandates, their careers are in peril. Maybe you will finally care when they impose something that you cannot tolerate personally. Hope that day is sooner than later for you and others who are part of the problem.
